Go fund me or wedding registery

Alisha, on July 26, 2019 at 12:26 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 12
I would like to raise money for a down payment for a house. Has anyone thought of a way to raise funds for a down payment for a house? How do I start a go fund me or is this far fetched?

Make a registry with visa gift cards in unspecified amounts as an option. At least you don't need to worry about go fund me fees.

There's registries that have cash funds specifically for houses. Home funds.

If you don't have a registry, people are likely to give you cash as gifts for your wedding. You don't need a home fund, or a honeymoon fund, or anything else that takes fees out so you end up getting less money.

But a GoFundMe is unlikely to work. People typically save up on their own to buy a house; they don't expect others to do it for them.

I would not do a go found me account, those are more for charity cases. Most people give cash for gift,

GoFundMe is more for serious matters. They also are known to take a percentage of the money. If you don't have a registry people will either just give you the money or buy something random anyway.
Also sometimes these websites report your money to the IRS and after about $10k you might end up with trouble on your taxes. There's been a handful of people who have gotten into trouble for it in the passed few years. I'd honestly go with personal checks or cash.

Yeah, GoFundMe is not for this. Just don't register and people will give you cash.

How to raise funds for a down payment? Umm..save your money.
If you are getting married, dont register anywhere. People will get the hint and give you money.

Please don’t use a go fund me for your wedding or your house. Go fund me is meant for people in crises.

You can do a cash fund on registries for specific items. For example, we have a "Honeymoon Fund" as an option for our guests on our registry who may not want to give a physical gift or cash. I would suggest doing that instead of a GoFundMe, which may not be appropriate for a wedding.

I agree with PPs, if I was going to a wedding with no registry, I would just give cash! Use that cash to save for the down payment!

Just don't register and do not have a wedding shower. GoFundMe me is NOT for weddings or home savings.
