Gluten Free??

FutureMrs.L, on April 22, 2017 at 8:43 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 32

Hi! I'm just newly engaged, but my fiancé brought up doing a gluten free wedding cake due to my severe stomach issues. He said he wants me to be able to enjoy our cake without worrying how sick I'd get.

Has anyone done gluten free? Does it make me seem overly complicated to choose gluten free?

Thanks!

You could always have a smaller GF cake for yourself and anyone else that prefers it, and have regular cake for the rest of your guests

You'll want to talk to your baker about this. When I worked at a cupcake shop, we made a gluten free cake about once a month. An experienced bakery will be able to help!

I understand and yes- I would absolutely do a GF cake. You could do a GF display cake (1-2 tiers) to cut and eat but have a sheet cake in the back of regular cake. And most people don't eat GF honestly so a non-GF option would be great for them while having a GF portion of the cake or tier is great for you and possibly anyone else needing it. An entire GF cake is going to be more expensive so if you could just do a display cake idea OR choose your top tier to be GF only- then you can have your cake and eat it too!! (Haha)

Thanks Ladies! I'll have to look at all options, he said absolutely no to cupcakes. Actually he kinda gave me a look, that practically screamed "hell no". Lol

My mother is Gluten free and I want her to be able to enjoy cake as well. The bakery we are using does gluten free options for all their flavors. We are doing a small 2 tiered cake and then cupcakes to fill the rest of the order. Plus sides with this option - more flavor options and gluten free option. We were told the GF will be designated by a different wrapper.

I have celiac disease, and we are going with a two-tier GF cake for cutting, and a sheet cake (same flavors & decor) for the rest. Once I found a trusted baker, it really wasn't a big deal. I'm not the only one who will eat it,

@endruger, I have gastroparesis so me and a lot of foods don't get along. He's already thinking of ideas and things to make it more enjoyable for me. Smiley smile makes me melt all over again for him. <3

Our cake is gluten free, a small two tier and then half of our cupcakes are as well after all it is my day & I should be able to enjoy the cake! My bridesmaids are also using my cake lady for my shower and planning an entire GF shower

I have a dairy allergy and we have a handful of guests who are gluten free, so we ordered allergen friendly cupcakes and then are having a dessert bar that will be "not Kristin friendly" aka full of dairy

    Smiley smile

My fiancé has celiacs so we are having a separate bakery make cupcakes for him and his mom (she's GF by choice.) The bakery for our main wedding cake doesn't offer gluten free products.

At the rehearsal dinner we are getting him a gluten free grooms cake too!

We have a GF Baker! Her cake was better than any traditional cake we tried in our area so we ended up going with her.

My FH and part of his family are gluten free. We found a baker that does gluten free and we did a tasting and you could not even tell it wasn't regular. We have a 6" cake and mini cupcakes.

I am gluten free as well and we both decided that it's our day and the entire wedding cake is going to be gluten free. We chose a bakery that only focuses on gluten free items and nothing else and we are doing red velvet. Our bakery makes the cake tastes just like a normal cake and our guest won't know the difference

I also suggest a separate cake or just doing a tier (or two) of GF cake. You could even do a "groom's cake" in GF so that you can enjoy some cake. We're just doing a small regular cake with sheet cakes in the back anyways since I honestly didn't see the point in doing an elaborate cake, I just want it to be tasty. There are lots of options out there, hopefully you figure out what works best for you!

My entire wedding will be gluten free. I have family and friends who have celiac's disease and I don't need my mom dropping dead from cross contamination. The catering staff and Baker will only be hired for their ability to be gluten free. My guests won't know the difference either so that's a plus!

We regularly get our cakes from a bakery that makes their cakes gluten-free but can customize to make them vegan and soy-free for us too. They are always delicious and they are making our wedding cake too. I also am gluten free and our entire food buffet is going to be food I can eat.

Listen i get it. But don't do this to your guest. I'm sure the caterer and baker will make something small for you.

We are both GF and doing the top layer GF cake. It was REALLY hard finding a bakery that does both without it being like $1000. That being said the rest is not GF that way both of us can enjoy cake.

I had a coworker with a lot of allergies, and we got a really amazing gf and vegan cake for her birthday last year. You can definitely get a crowd pleasing cake that fits your own dietary needs! I would have never known had I not been a part of the planning!
