Glue questions...

Kerin, on June 24, 2020 at 12:33 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 16

Hi all, I have a question for the crafty people...this is for my invitations. They are black and red, and I have very intricate cricut folding wraps to go around them. The wraps have a little pocket for your RSVP cards and anything else you're sending, like accommodation info, etc. The wraps don't have anything to hold the invitation in, so they slide right out of the bottom when you take the packet out of the envelope. I want to dab just the top corners of the invitations with adhesive so they stay put in the card wrap.

I read that rubber cement discolors paper because of the acids in it, but that's what FH brought home when I mentioned the issue. I've also read that Elmer's clear school glue will not discolor paper...so that's what I bought.

So the questions are: is the statement about rubber cement true? Will the clear school glue hold well with card stock to thick construction paper? Ultimately, which would you use?

Double sided tape. It's used for scrapbooking all the time and very reliable without the mess of glue.

Thanks, Jana. I have a feeling my kiddos are going to end up with all the glue and sticky stuff their little hearts could desire by the time I finish my DIY projects Smiley xd

It is, but I’ve used it to fasten squares of paper on a project I did and it didn’t stain and it held. But it has to be thin or else it may show through

Rubber cement doesn't discolor paper, I used it back in college (art student) to mount projects to foam core boards, but it is extremely tacky and can get messy if not used correctly. So I would advise not to use rubber cement. I think just a small square of double sided tape would work fine for what you're trying to do, and you wouldn't have to worry about the paper drying or wrinkling. Also I would do a test run on a practice invite to make sure it's the look you want. Hope this helps!

They are so nice and easy! They work just like the white out rollers. But they dispense extra sticky double sided tape. You’re welcome!

I'm a cardmaker/scrapbooker and it sounds like what you need is a typical double sided tape runner! Theres lots of brands with differing levels of stickyness and patterns for certain projects. I suggest the Tombow tape runners, they are sold at most major craft stores like Michaels!
    Heres what it looks like:

This kind is refillable but there's plenty of one time use ones that a local craft store can reccommend!Happy planning!
