Gifts/Notes for In-Laws

AnnieL, on April 2, 2017 at 2:40 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 15

So I was just wondering what the rest of you did for gifts for your in-laws. Did you and your significant other get a joint gift for them both, or individual gifts for each parent from both of you, or you bought your own gift for them? Also- I know you're supposed to write notes thanking each VIP for being a part of your day- did you individualize these notes or do them as a couple to the parents? I am thinking of doing my parents individually and then his as a joint with him. What did everyone else do? The amount of notes and gifts are stressing us out... lol. Thanks for any help!

We just got a joint gift for both our parents. Nice personalized frames so they can pick a favorite wedding pic to put in it!

We got both our parents gifts from both of us but technically I picked out the mom gifts and he did our dads. We gave my mom a gold monogram necklace she's been wanting, his mom pearl earrings, and our dads a nice engraved knife with "dad" on it. We then both wrote a letter to both parents. So I wrote a letter to my parents from me and a letter to his parents from me and he did the same. We tried to do letters together but waited till the last minute and it was just easier to do it on our own. Then we gave them to our parents the day after the wedding alone like us with his parents and then us with my parents. We wanted to do the day of or rehearsal dinner but there was no time.

We are getting gifts for our own parents and that's it. We both got our moms personalized handkerchiefs. I will be getting my mom at least one other gift. Something a little fancier. My dad won't be there so can't help you on that part haha. And I dont know what my fh is getting for his dad either... sorry, not so helpful! Haha

I got them all handkerchiefs lol. MIL's said "mother of the groom" and FIL's said "to my new dad." My mom's said "mother of the bride" and my dad's said "to my dad, always your little girl." I don't think DH got them gifts--I told him I didn't think he needed to. But I wrote them each a short note the night before the wedding thanking them for being there and loving me/us. It doesn't have to be a long letter, just a short heartfelt note. Mine were only a few sentences.

We did joint gifts - I picked the gifts for the moms (jeweled brooches) and he picked the gifts for the dads (engraved wine corkscrews). We wrote thank you notes for our respective sides of the families.

We bought each set of parents an engraved frame to pick their favourite picture in. In all honesty, I will end up writing all the letters/cards and Fh and I will sign them. He never knows what to say so this can be easier.

FH wanted to write his own letter to his parents, so you might want to check with your FH before assuming you can sign your name too! I wrote one to mine and my in-laws, but not sure if he's going to write anything for my parents. We did put both our names on the gifts from us though. We did photo frames, glasses (with MOB, MOG, etc), and cufflinks for my dad.

We did joint gifts but separate notes. Ex: He's writing his parents each a note from just him and I'm writing them a combined note from just me. I'll write my patents each one and he will write one to my parents together.

We did embroidered hankys for our mothers along with bracelets with the writing and names of those missing that were close to them.

Our dads are getting frames and tie clips with the nautical coordinates of our ceremony with the date on the back. (Yacht club wedding).
