Gifts!

Kelly, on December 19, 2022 at 11:59 AM Posted in Community Conversations 0 8

Of course gifts are on my mind right now! I don't really do much for Christmas though, so I want to talk about wedding day gifts instead. Background-I was offered a year long internship in a foreign country but my then-boyfriend couldn't come with me. I was planning on proposing to him upon my return. He beat me to it and proposed before I left. When my grandmother died, I inherited some antique cufflinks that belonged to my grandfather. I bought a custom carved cufflink box with our wedding monogram and date on it. The day of, I'll "propose" to my fiancé with the box and cufflinks. That'll be his day of gift. I'm really excited but I can't talk to him about it without ruining the surprise. What are you doing for day of gifts?

Oh my gosh, that sounds like a super sweet and meaningful gift for you to give to him!! I'm sure he will love it! I totally understand the difficulty of wanting to tell him, but not wanting to ruin the surprise. I'm in a similar boat - I already bought a first anniversary gift for my husband, but now I have to wait until July to give it to him.

For a day-of wedding gift for my husband, I bought him five (mostly small) things. I didn't feel like doing the "something old, something new,..." scavenger hunt for myself, so I came up with gifts for my husband that matched those 4 themes, plus a "something for today's adventure" bonus gift! Something old was the framed ticket to the sporting event we went to on our very first date. Something new was an engraved wallet filled with gift cards for date nights out (he knew ahead of time that I was getting this for him, since he almost bought a new wallet before our wedding and I had to tell him why he shouldn't). Something borrowed was an idea I "borrowed" from the bachelor in the form of a rose lapel pin, and I had a note with it to say, "will you accept this rose?" Something blue was a Christmas ornament (we collect them) that was mostly blue, and had both our original wedding date and our postponed wedding date on it. Something for today's adventure was two tequila shots (also a tradition of ours) that I told him to bring to our first look for us to do together.

The day of idea gifts are so sweet! Good luck keeping the anniversary gift a secret! I know I'll need it to keep mine a secret.

Aww these are such sweet ideas. Mine’s not really a surprise since FH and I have already talked about doing this, but we’re already planning on getting Enso rings in addition to our actual bands. They come in so many designs/colors/characters, so we’re each going to pick out the other person’s and give them to each other on our wedding day.

These are so cute!! Kind of makes me want to do something alongside my current gift. My fiancé knows what his gift is, since it was related to his birthday present. I did a boudoir shoot in September, so for his birthday he got a little black book of photos and then for the wedding day I'm going to give him access to the app of all the photos that my photographer gifted me.

That’s a very thoughtful gift! I’m bought my fiancé a watch of brand he has always wanted. He originally bought one for himself, but then decided to give it to his brother for Christmas.

Nice! My fiance is very adamant that he should be buying watches for himself because he has specific tastes.

I love this idea. I am still extremely unsure what to do for a wedding gift for my fiance. Ive thought about a watch, but he has a smartwatch. Ive been thinking about one of those custom painted portraits to include his grandparents (all of which have passed) and our little family. I cant decide yet.
