Gifts for parents, grandparents etc.

Macy, on June 25, 2017 at 1:03 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 9

I would like to hear about some gifts that were given to parents (mob/mog), grandparents, aunts, uncles, or those who have helped with the wedding in general. Thanks!

I definitely need to know as well. But do we get gifts if they're not helping with the wedding

The gifts are to thank them for their support- in more ways than just financial:for raising you, for their support of the relationship etc.

You know your parents' interests. We don't.

If you want to buy something generic, buy a picture frame with an IOU for a wedding picture.

I got embroidered hankies from etsy for everyone with a personal heartfelt message on it. Everyone loved them!

We are getting them gift cards to their favorite restaurant. My mom is easy enough to buy for but my dad is pretty difficult, he doesn't collect anything and if there's something he needs he buys. Food is easy and appreciated

Do grandparents traditionally get wedding gifts? I didn't realize, I was only going to do parent gifts.

We struggled with this-- we were planning a fairly economical wedding and really struggled with what to get that wouldn't be overdone, personal but not too sappy, not expensive but not too cheap. Here's what we wound up with:

    Dads and brothers:

A monogrammed pocket knife. Honestly real cheap through Oriental Trading, but still looked nice. We picked this because for our group, it was the only thing we thought they'd all use.

    My sister and his sister:

    small cuff bracelets that said:

She's marrying me, but she's stuck with us.

He's marrying me, but he's stuck with us.

The inside had "Joy and Tyler June 9, 2017"

Our officiant was a good friend. We got her a cuff bracelet that said:

"We couldn't say 'I Do" without you!"

The inside also had "Joy and Tyler June 9, 2017"

We got all the cuff bracelets from Etsy, "TheSaltyHut".

For our parents, we got corsages and boutonnieres that were made of sola wood, not fresh flowers, so those were keepsakes. (My bouquet was the same. A splurge, but SO happy.)

We also got our FMILs necklaces of a tree and a pearl that were given with a saying:

"I'll soon walk down the aisle

    and join your family tree

    Thanks for everything you do

    for the groom and me."

(The other one saying "She'll soon walk down the aisle and I'll join your family tree. Thanks for everything you do for the bride and me.")

Those were also from Etsy (WearableWhispers).

We opted not to do grandparents or anyone else outside of parents and siblings. With our small wedding, once you do that it just expands quickly to a lot of people!
