Gifts for Officiants and Musicians....?

Susanne, on August 3, 2011 at 3:00 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 8

...Are these expected? My wedding is just 17 days away, and I have gifts for it seems everyone else under the sun, but I JUST realized, I don't have anything for our officiant or ceremony musician. Our officiant is a woman we found online, and who was recommended by our venue, since we are not being married in a church, and our ceremony musician is a long-time friend of my FMIL.

We are paying our Officiant, since we found her online, have a business contract, etc., but not our musician, since she is a famly friend....any thoughts?

The only time I've heard of giving a vendor a gift is if it's a friend who is doing the service for free. If you're paying them, that's their 'gift' Smiley smile

Agree with Lovestruck, we're thinking of giving our pastors a watch not sure yet because they're doing this for free and basically we don't have to give them anything but just to say thanks we want to do something nice

We did give our Ushers, Officiants, Musician and Solist a thank-you card and monetary gift just because they all were people we knew and we wanted to give them something to show we appreciated them. None of them asked to be paid.

Now if you are paying your vendors. No you shouldn't give an additional gift.

If they are a paid vendor and its someone you work closely with like a DOC it customery to give a gift. My minister and organist, though being paid, are also friends so I am giving them each a bottle of wine, as I am my trumpist and singers who are not being paid.

We're giving ours gifts, but that's because I've known them for a good 15+ years. In your case, I would say a small tip might be nice.

Gratuities are never expected... and always appreciated. What is appreciated even more, though, is you coming back to Wedding Wire and posting a great review of the services you received.
