Gift Table Location?

Karie, on August 18, 2017 at 12:49 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 8

So we are having our ceremony at our church and the reception is off site. Does the gift table go at the church or at the reception? How will people know where they are supposed to take them? I'm not being gift grabby, I just don't know the etiquette here...

Reception. Typically by the guest book.

Hi, I've worked assisting in day-of coordination for several weddings this Summer with a wedding planning company. Guest book is at the entrance of your ceremony, then moved to the reception somewhere by the escort card table/seating chart. Gifts can be taken at either the ceremony or at the reception. If people see a guest book and any sort of real estate next to it on a table, they will usually start a pile. If you're not comfortable leaving them sit out, designate your day-of coordinator or someone you trust to keep an eye on the table/move them when there appears to be a larger pile accumulating.

As the pp said, you could have the guestbook at the ceremony, although more commonly it is at the reception. If you decide to have it at the ceremony, make sure you have someone designated to be responsible to move it to the reception.

The gift table is generally just inside the entrance to the reception. You don't want to leave it in the foyer of your venue where anyone attending another event at the venue could abscond with your gifts.

The gift table is also more commonly labelled "CARDS" as it is not polite to imply that you expect gifts. It is also much more polite if guests who choose to give a gift have it delivered to the b

ride's home prior to the wedding. Having to secure and transport gifts takes away form close family's enjoyment of the reception. Remember this the next time you are a guest.
