Gift giving at rehearsal dinner?

rica, on April 22, 2018 at 4:58 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 13

I know it's standard to give your wedding party and parents gifts at the rehearsal dinner, but I'm not sure I want to do that in front of everyone. I don't need my two sets of parents seeing what I got the other, and I have some gifts for the bridesmaids that are sentimental and personal. And besides that, I think it's boring for everyone to watch. Did anyone give gifts at a different time? Or give them out at the RD but not have everyone open them there? Find a more private time?

Give them their gifts whenever you choose.I do think the RD is an ideal time for you to thank everyone though- the wedding party for their support, and your parents for raising you to be the people you are.

You could always present the gifts as people are leaving, to open at home.

I like this idea. I might even be okay with giving them casually throughout the night instead of a big, showy production. Thanks!

Since OOT guests are invited to the RD, we are instead planning to give the parents their gifts on that Thursday of the wedding weekend when we take all three sets of parents out to dinner. For the wedding party gifts, we are giving it to them when they meet us for lunch/getting ready in our respective suites Day-Of.

I think I'll do mine at the end of the RD as they are leaving.

My SIL gave them to us as we were leaving. I didn’t think anything of it being odd. I also didn’t think about looking at what others got, I was excited to get a gift! Lol

We gave ours out at the RD but it’s not like they watched each other open the gifts.

I've gotten gifts the day of the wedding. I've also read to put the gifts at their seat at the rehearsal dinner.

We gave all gifts at the rehearsal dinner, but you can also give them out the morning of the wedding while you're getting ready.

I have attended a couple rehearsal dinners and I have never seen the couple give a gift to the parents or bridal party then. I think doing it privately would be better.

You can handle out the gifts after the rehearsal dinner that way they open it at home and you don’t have to worry about it the day of the wedding that’s what I’ll do be doing

I've never been to a rehearsal dinner where everyone opened their gifts in front of everyone else. They accepted their gift and went back to their seat. Is it a thing to open it up in front of everyone??

In the past I've been given gifts at the rehearsal dinner only 1 time. the other 3 times I was given the gifts on the day of the wedding. I think whatever you want will be fine Smiley smile
