Gift for my sister.....

Angela, on September 12, 2020 at 11:37 AM Posted in Family and Relationships 0 11

Just a little back story. I am the youngest of 4 girls. My oldest sister is 20 years older than me. My mother passed away in 2012 and my oldest sister promised my mother that she would take care of me and my children. Since the day my mother passed, my oldest sister has done just that. She has stepped up and been there for me and my children just like a mother. She has never pushed herself on us as a mother or grandmother, she has just been there. I want to acknowledge this at our wedding. I want to show her how much she is appreciated. I just don't know how. Everything I see is for the mother of the bride. Any suggestions would be a great help!!!

Is she going to be in your wedding?

No, she has to use a walker (she has very bad knees) and has a hard time standing for long periods of time. She will be front row though.

What’re her interests? Maybe get something geared to things she likes

She can still officially be in the wedding party if you want her to be, even if she's not standing with you.
Whether or not you choose to include her in that way, you can still give her flowers and a gift (maybe a locket with a picture of the two of you in it) and if you give a speech at either the wedding or rehearsal dinner, you can mention how much her support has meant to you and your kids throughout the years.

Hmmm I think get her a gift and maybe (although not ideal) she can still be acting maid of honor? Like she can walk down the aisle and sit in the front row. You would need to walk to her but maybe she can hold your bouquet. Oh maybe during the ceremony do a little speech or gift for her thanking her or do a speech at your reception honoring her and giving her a gift?

This is so thoughtful and sweet of you to do! At my close friend’s wedding, instead of doing a unity ceremony, they took a moment to personally thank the women that helped shape their lives. They gave small bouquets to their moms and shared a few personal words and hugs. I thought it was super special and a good way to honor loved ones on the special day! It is something that you could work out with your officiant if you like that idea.

Piggy backing here! I love this idea, could you tell me how they executed this? Was it during the ceremony?

Sure! Yes, they did it during their ceremony. The officiant announced that the bride and groom would like to take a moment to thank their mothers (in their case but could be whoever you’d like to thank) and would like to give them small tokens of appreciation. My wording isn’t exact, but something to that effect! They did that and then proceeded with the ceremony!

I love this idea!! I think we may go with this idea. I had thought about doing something like that, honoring his mom and my sister. Thank you!!
