Gift For Mothers and Fathers At Bridal Shower

Amanda, on March 7, 2021 at 12:40 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 6

Hello

I want to get the mothers something for throwing us the bridal shower. Any ideas? I don't want to spend over $200, because i plan on getting my mother and father something else and giving it to them on wedding day. Both fathers will be in attendance at the shower, do i get something as well? Or just the mothers?? PLEASE HELP!! It is approaching very quickly!! April 18th to be exact!

Thank you!!

What do your mothers like? An inexpensive hostess gift like a candle or a bottle of wine or something is typical. You don't need to go all out for a hostess gift. If the fathers are in attendance but didn't really do any of the planning, I don't think you need to give them a gift (just as you aren't giving a gift to every guest).

Thanks for your response! I feel bad i dont want to leave them out! LOL. Grooms mother likes more simples things, my mother likes for extravegent things! But they both don’t want us to spend money on them if that makes sense?

A simple google search for “hostess gifts” will turn up tons of results. A bottle of wine, flowers, or gift card is plenty. No need to spend even $50, let alone $200. Unless your fathers are hosting, I’m not sure why you’d give them a gift.

It is inappropriate/ bad manners, to give presents to the people who held a party to collect presents for you, and give them to them, in front of the people they asked to bring you these extra gifts. Makes them look like collection agents.
A nice thank you note, and a small hostess gift only ( candy, or a bottle of something, flowers, pastries) anything you would bring to the hostess of any dinner visit to their home, or party you attend, is the usual. ( Far, far smaller than any shower or wedding gift. )

Gifts for parents are inappropriate in this situation. A thank you card given privately is best.
