Gift Cards for Bridesmaid Gifts??

Kacey, on May 17, 2016 at 7:02 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 17

Is it bad etiquette to give gift cards as part of my bridesmaid gift?

In addition to a robe and earrings for the day of plus chipping in for wedding hair (which I know don't count as a gift), I'm thinking of putting a $75 Nordstrom gift card in a monogrammed luggage tag. I also sent them all mugs that fit their personality for Valentine's day and am getting them all matching Nike running shorts (inside joke with them) for the bachelorette party next weekend. I have 7 bridesmaids and they all have a different style, and are mostly traveling to the wedding via plane so I thought this would be a good compromise. I like the idea of individual gifts but I don't have good taste and am worried about getting them something they don't like.

Would love some input on if this is something ya'll would appreciate as a BM!

I think gift cards are totally acceptable. I'm giving mine Starbucks cards in addition to a number of other things.

I like the idea! Especially if everyone is traveling. Do they all shop at Nordstrom though? Could you get them different cards if not?

I think gifts cards are great! Then they can pick out what they want and you don't have to stress out to much about picking individual gifts for each of them!

Ooooo ... I just thought of something. I don't know if THIS would be tacky but think about including the receipt/gift receipt along with the GCs. My kids get GCs all the time for birthdays and Christmas and sometimes when we purchase something using it, the card shows up as not having any money on it. Most of the time the envelope they came in will have the amount it's for written on it from the gift giver and the store just has to trust that.

Is that OK to include the gift receipt?

Great idea! We're doing gift cards for both the groomsmen and bridesmaids along with the supplimental gifts (personalized money clip/ wallet for groomsmen, monogrammed robe and tumbler cup for bridesmaids). I feel like people appreciate gift cards the most they're practical plus you got them supplimental items as well! Smiley smile

Thanks everyone! Yeah, I figured in addition to the other stuff I've gotten them, they'd appreciate something they can pick-out on their own. So happy everyone seems to agree Smiley laugh

Especially since you are giving them other stuff besides the gift card it is a great idea.

I'm getting mine a gift card to somewhere that I know they love! It's always nice to add things that have a personal touch! I think they are great bridesmaids gifts! Definitely better than little things that they most likely will never use again.

I got cute coffee mugs that I'm going to put Starbucks gift cards in. I also got adorable makeup bags that I'm going to put Ulta gift cards in. That way they can pamper themselves and actually use the gifts they're given rather then toss them away.
