Giant paper flowers! Diy- super easy! Make your own template!

Jessica, on July 14, 2019 at 2:14 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 8
I just wanted to share these beauties and let anyone know who has been considering making some to go for it! I saw these giant paper flowers for the 1st time on a BAM here on WW and I fell in love with them. When I looked up prices it was like $100 for 4 of them which I thought was crazy.

Yesterday at Michael's I saw their cardstock was on sale so I bought 3 packs ($10 total) and came home and looked up some Pinterest ideas. They all said you needed to print out or buy a template, but I decided to wing it and make my own. This is the final result and I love it!

So if youve been thinking about making these, go for it! Hands down the easiest DIY I've done yet.

So awesome! I’ve been looking to try these, but can’t find a good tutorial on them. How did you do it?

I actually used an old flate rate shipping envelope (from here will be called cardboard) i had around the house. I knew I needed something to keep the top of the petals fairly symmetrical, and I happened to have 3 different size embroidery hoops. Before I thought of those I was just going to use an array of different candle holders I had to trace, but now, looking back, I could have just free handed it.

So 1st i traced each embroidery hoop on the cardboard. Then I drew a straight line through approx 30% of each circle. This part will make up the top of each petal. Then I erased the rest of the circle and drew lines that slanted downward. This dose not have to be perfect, just make it so it looks mostly even to the naked eyed.
You will repeat this for 3 different sizes. However, it can also be made with just 2 sizes.

2nd For the center of the roses you need tighter "petals" or the "bud" so if you cut a template like pic #3 you just trace it, cut it, then glue all the "corners" one at a time. The colored in circle makes the bottom and you glue it in the center. Do this once you have all petals glued on.

For the petals, once they're cut, just make a slit 2-3" high and glue to each other. This pops up in the videos on pinterest when you search Giant Paper Flowers. Then I glued each petal onto a small piece of cardboard that was cut into a circle.

I posted what I did on another comment if you'd like to see.
I also made the 3rd flower since my original post. Its my favorite pics just aren't that great.
I also forgot to say in my how to response that after you cut all petals use a pen or handle of wood spoon to roll the edges of the the flowers out and down, except the smallest petals, you will roll one side down and one side up.
In my last flower i also folded a crease in each petal before gluing them and I love how they turned out.
