Ghosted By our Caterer

Shakiyla, on August 23, 2020 at 6:01 PM Posted in Planning 0 7

Since we are a community of brides trying to plan our big day I figured I would share my weekend experience with my caterer. I'm two months away from my wedding!!

So I (my mother) was setting up a tasting with the caterer for the 30th of this month. During this whole Social distancing/pandemic we were steady communicating with her about how would things look for our event, what changes we would need to make and if she thought the venue would be open. She ensured us that everything will be fine, we will follow the state and city regulations and we would just change from buffet to plated food. So everything was going well until we longer heard from her after Aug. 10. My mother has been calling, texting and emailing her everyday since Aug. 10, we became concerned we thought maybe she got ill or something you know we are in pandemic and the Hampton Roads area numbers have been on the rise lately. But something told me to check Facebook, I find her account saw that she was very active on her page and her business page. My parents went to the venue on Saturday and spoke with the manager found out the caterer no longer works at that facility and they will no longer be planning or hosting events and the venue, the manager of the facility could not tell us why the caterer was let go. The venue is a city ran golf course, so the course is still open but the event hall is closed down and cannot be used. The manager was very apologetic and is going to refund us but he is also going to try to find a new caterer and event planner.

But yall I found the caterer on IG left them a comment on there most recent post asking if they are still hosting at that particular location, they told me they are not hosting there due to city regulations, but they are still catering at other places and to contact them about booking. Once I told them who I was I heard nothing back.

How can you just ghost someone that's planning a wedding two months out and say absolutely nothing!!

So at this point I am looking for a new venue and caterer, while the venue manager did say he is going to try to find someone but it is not guaranteed. I have the meanest headache now, I cried at the casino when my parents told me I couldn't even enjoy my blue crabs yesterday lol

Do you have a contract? Did you pay that caterer directly? I am so sorry and I would be just as upset. Smiley sad

Luckily enough we did not get that far, we were going to do that on the 30th. We only paid $250 to hold our date with the venue.

But I can only imagine the headache for people that have events coming up within the next week and month.

Still a huge reason to be upset but glad that you did not pay and then got ghosted. I would have cried and then hunted that person down ha ha.

My mom was so ready to go to the caterer restaurant and give them a piece of her mind but my father held her back. lol

We understand Covid 19 has really affect businesses especially small/ local businesses; if they would of told us about the problem, we would of been very understanding but to say nothing and ignore people is really crazy.

Check out Peerspace.com or Eventective.com for a venue and ask your favorite restaurant to cater.
