Ghosted by florist?

Carly, on October 1, 2018 at 2:35 PM Posted in Planning 0 8

Has anyone been ghosted by a vendor they were interested in hiring? I met with a florist for (what I thought) was an awesome consult. We spent ~1 hour together going through all the details and she seemed excited and interested in working with me. She promised to send over a quote and vision board, to be followed by a contract.

Well, that was three weeks ago. Two unanswered emails and one voicemail later, I'm starting to accept that I've been ghosted. Smiley sad Any ideas what went wrong? Has this happened to anyone else?

This happened to me too with the first florist I attempted to hire! I have no idea why. So unprofessional.

This also happened to me with a florist.

I contacted florists a year from my wedding, 2 got back to me and 1 rudely told me that it was too early to book and to call them back 6 months out. Fast forward 6 months, we decided to save the $2,000 and DIY for $600 from Flower Moxie. The rude florist contacted me again to follow up with us, I was interested still in her prices so I said we'd love a quote. She ghosted us for a month after that and then sent another email saying basically "Never mind, we can't work with you. We booked another wedding for your date and we cannot do both. Good luck." I was pretty livid at how they acted but either way I probably wasn't going to use them.

Since your wedding is over a year away they may just not feel a rush to return your calls/emails. Fall is also a busy wedding time these days. Not saying it's acceptable how they are acting, but you have some time before you absolutely need to lock something down.

You're probably right about the timeline being an issue . I do think she's super busy, but all I needed was some reassurance that I was still on the radar at all and I would have felt fine waiting as long as it took for the quote since we are so far out. Now I feel like I just don't even trust her. Oh well, back to the drawing board. Good luck with your wedding!

So irritating. I wonder if it's just a standard thing in the industry? I feel a little better knowing it's not just me.

Me! I'm going to talk to another florist today.
Im bummed because the first one seemed great. The quote came back a little high and i asked for details since the quote didn't provide what cost what. She said she'd get back to me that was over 2 weeks ago. I sent a follow up email a week ago. I know this may be a busy time but until I asked for details she was super responsive.
Their loss and I'll save some headaches later on. Finger crossed this one today goes well.
    Good luck to you OP!

This happened to me with a limo company! Was quoted a great deal. I said "great, let me crunch the numbers and I'll get back to you." They emailed me the next day all stern and forceful, asking why I hadn't booked their contract yet (mind you, it had been like 10 hours). I said I had to run it by the holders of the budget for this portion and I would have an answer the next day. Well, finally emailed them back (after less than 48 hours total) and said we would like to know the next steps. No response. A week later, touched base again. No response. Another week later, no response. Finally ended up signing with another company. They were $50 more expensive - minimal excess - but they answered me right away every time.

As an update, FOUR MONTHS after the initial conversation, they called me and asked if I was still interested in the original quote! I told them what happened and why I went elsewhere, and the woman just said "oh, well that girl hasn't worked here for a few months so....sorry. Did you still want us or nah?" I hung up the phone and laughed.

I'm dealing with this right now with my officiant (she was supposed to send me a final draft for us to edit for our ceremony script last week--I still haven't gotten it) and my DJ (I sent him our ceremony music choices and just asked him to confirm he received them--NOTHING and it's been like 6 days). I just do not understand why these vendors cannot respond to simple emails or requests? I think a lot of them just stretch themselves too thin and overbook themselves, at the expense of their brides, which is just bad business IMO. It really ticks me off!! Smiley sad
