Getting wrinkles out of linens?

Nisa, on July 10, 2018 at 8:47 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 1 10
I recently bought some 120" tablecloths from a recently married bride on Facebook Marketplace. They were a steal- but now I'm having anxiety about how to get all the wrinkles out and store them for the wedding. I'm sure a dry cleaner could do it at a really terrifying cost...so does anyone have any suggestions on how to get rid of the wrinkles, and how best to store them?

A good steam/iron should do the trick. Roll them up to store them instead of folding them.

I agree with @ThePeoplesBride. Steaming/ironing then rolling to store.

A garment steamer may get out the wrinkles a little faster. Our steamer is all we use now. We have one by Rowenta and I’ve also heard good things about the one by Joy Mangano, plus there are tons of steamers with good reviews on Amazon.

I have lots of tablecloths, as our 2 dining tables have extra extensions to convert a table to seat 12, 14, or 16 people. And I store them smooth after ironing them, in the same way I do my quilt batting, which comes in huge many yard long sheets. Foam pipe insulation is cheap at any hardware store or home improvement store that carries wood. Here is a link with picture, a sample so you know what I mean: https://m.lowes.com/pd/Frost-King-1-2-in-x-6-ft-Foam-Plumbing-Tubular-Pipe-Insulation/1060001 Use a regular iron to iron the tablecloths after washing. Big ones, fold in half with top surface inside . Put the foam tube down on one end, and use it like the cardboard tube in a roll of foil or wrapping paper, and roll up the table cloth. You can roll a second one over that one. Secure by using sturdy thread, string, thin strip of cloth, fishing line, anything cheap and white or clear nylon, even a strip from a discarded white t shirt., and loosely tie around roll of tablecloths. Do not use twist ties or wire, it will leave marks. Wrap multiple tubes together in one super thin and cheap plastic painters drop cloth, or a $2 plastic shower curtain . Every time you use them wash them, iron, back on tubes. 6 foot lengths run about $2 , for the ones meant to go around small water pipes. And superlight, does mot grow mold or mildew, because it is meant to be used in damp dark places, so treated.

Make sure they are fully dry before storing! Or they could grow mold!

What about one of those portable steamers? If it worked you could use it day of the wedding if anything wrinkles in transit

Nicole- Good point! , That is what I was told years back, don't roll on cardboard mailing tubes or wooden dowels, which hold moisture, thus can mold. Like after steaming a gown or suit to get out wrinkles, a steamer or hanging in the bathroom with the shower running > it is best to run a fan or cool hair dryer over it so absolutely dry before putting under plastic..
