Getting the Dress

Lizzy, on May 26, 2019 at 9:37 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 6

Hi Everyone, So I'm getting married in May 2020. I go to school in California, but we are getting married in Pennsylvania. Because of that, I'm concerned about getting my dress. I don't really want to get it while I'm in PA over the summer because I would like to loose weight before even going dress shopping, but I'm afraid of getting it in CA because I don't want to possibly get damaged on the plane. Anyone have any ideas, tips, or personal experience with this?

I'm from New York. Live in Virginia now. I bought my dress in New York. Lucky for me, the salon I ordered it from is a small one and they are storing my dress for me while they do alterations, and even after until we go home for the wedding. Do you have a family member that could store your dress in PA for you? That is what I was going to do if the store couldnt store it, keep it at my brothers house.

As for losing weight, dont wait too long to order your dress. Mine took almost a year to come in! The government shut down delayed the shipping of it so it took an extra couple months. Get fitted for the size you are and know that most dresses can be altered to about 2 sizes down and I believe about 1 size up. Good luck!

Ask in both states about alterations when are they to be done.. I know some place ur buy the dress and when the time come to get it done u bring it back which might wrk cuz then you lost the weight u would like to. But get a size that u think your gonna be at by ur wedding...or some places keep the dress then do alterations4u so it depends ask your stores..

Hey Lizzy! Welcome to the WeddingWire community!!

Have you thought about what style of dress you would like to wear? Or any styles that you definitely don’t want? Smiley tongue

It can be a bit daunting going dress shopping but there is no need to worry, every bride finds a dress that they love for their wedding, and so will you.

Where would you prefer to buy your dress, and where will you be in the weeks/months in the run up to your wedding in order to get alterations done? A lot of bridal salons offer in-house alterations so if you are planning on availing of those services, you should think about where you will be.

As wedding dresses are almost always altered, there should be no issue with getting it to fit your body once you are closer to the wedding.

Yes! I actually ended up purchasing it on Etsy, and I'm having it delivered to Pennsylvania. It should be here before I leave for school in August so that I am able to try it on and figure out any alteration needs before the end of summer!
