Getting sleeves removed during alterations?

LauraWhit, on June 12, 2016 at 9:38 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 10

Hello! I was wondering if any of you all bought a long sleeve dress with the intention of getting them removed during alterations? I assumed it was an easy fix, but after reading some stuff I saw that it might not be that simple. Just seeing if anyone had experience or advice. Thanks!

I didn't have sleeves but I am getting the whole top taken off so it's strapless with a really low back. There was already a lot of boning in the top and they are adding more. If there isn't a ton of structure it might be hard to take the sleeves off completely but you'll need to ask the seamstress about your specific dress. It is super pretty!

How short do you want them? Do you know exactly where you would like them to cut the fabric, all the way around?

I would like the entire sleeve to be off so it hits at my shoulder. There is kind of a seam there if you zoom in enough. I feel comfortable explaining it to her - I'm just hoping she says its possible!

I think the dress is beautiful with the sleeves. Are you removing them to be cooler (I see you're getting married in the summer)?

How would you feel about the seam on your shoulder just being straight, i.e. no pretty scalloping etc.? That is the most likely outcome You can talk to the seamstress but it will completely change the vibe and feel of your gown.

Nancy - yes, I think it would get a little hot...we're having our ceremony outside and I think I just want to be as comfortable as I can. I also like that it's a bit more customized.

Minerva - I wouldn't mind if the scalloping went away with the sleeves, I just loved the neckline and back of it...

Needless to say, the sleeves didn't make or break the decision of buying the dress. I think the sleeves are beautiful on it too! I have my alterations appointment this afternoon so let's hope for the best!

Sample Maggie Sottero Wedding Dress Dahlia / 5HS158, Size 12 – PreOwnedWeddingDresses

This gives you the style number and may give enough to find it preowned or to check with the designer. This dress was purchased in 2014 so that is roughly how old that style is.

There are spinoff dresses but those usually are not of the quality you would desire.
