getting ring cleaned?

Ella, on July 6, 2017 at 11:09 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 7

I'd like to get my ring cleaned before our wedding; however, we bought it from a local jeweler in another state. can i just bring it in to any jewelry store here and ask for it to be cleaned? is this something i would pay for?

Yes, anywhere you take it other than where you bought it will probably charge you a small fee. I bought my ring from a local jewelry store so have all of that covered, but I've seen lots of warnings on here about taking it to a store other than where you bought it and the possibility of stones getting swapped out, etc. No idea if any of it is true, but just something to consider - make sure you find a very reputable place!

Yes you can bring it anywhere and they usually don't charge. Maybe call a few places first and ask if there is a fee just to be sure?

I've had my ring for 7 months and it hasn't left my side. i'm afraid to get it cleaned for fear of them switching out diamonds. Irrational fears? Maybe, but maybe not.

The switching diamonds thing can only happen if you are leaving it with them for repairs, not for a simple cleaning. Cleaning your ring takes less than 5 minutes, how the hell would they have time to mess with your ring?

Most jewelers will clean it at no cost. I've never had to drop mine off to get cleaned. I just walk into Zales and they clean it right in front of me and I walk out with it in under 5 minutes.

Double check with the original jeweler that your ring is good to go in an ultrasonic (machine they drop jewelry down in to clean them at most stores that essentially vibrates dirt/grime off the ring). Certain ring settings should not go in these machines, as it can shake stones loose. For example- mine band is a micropave setting and cant go in one. The one time I had to drop my ring off for repair the jeweler put it in ultrasonic and shook 4 stones loose from my band and then had to re-set them again. Most rings are totally fine with this- like channel set, bezel set, etc is totally fine in it...If yours is good to go in one- any jeweler should do it for you (many for free) and only takes a few minutes.
