Getting Ready

Rebecca, on July 28, 2020 at 8:15 AM Posted in Planning 0 19

Hey there WW Fam!

Soo I've been debating on where I should be getting ready. My wedding is Fall of 2021 (11/12/21 to be exact). We will be in my husband's hometown, and he will be getting ready at his parent's house. I was thinking maybe a hotel room, and the only hotel around is a Holiday Inn so right now that's where I'm planning on it. Do people do other things? I read somewhere that some brides have rented Air B&B's to get ready at some mansions. Is that too much of a to-do? Or do I even want to go through that hassle as well? Any and all ideas are welcome

For my sister's wedding, we all got ready in a hotel room! We had adjoining rooms, so it really seemed like one big room. It worked out pretty well. My venue has a bridal suite, so we'll be getting ready on site for my wedding, otherwise if the bridal suite wasn't an option, I'd plan to get ready in a hotel room. I think it's totally your call on whether you want to rent an Airbnb or not. If you decide to go with the Airbnb, I recommend staying there overnight as well so you don't have to pay for a hotel room as well.

I think it all depends on how much tradition you want to follow. Will he be able to see you before the wedding? If not or you don't care you may see each other, I think getting ready at his home is fine. If you want to follow a more traditional role that he doesn't see you until the ceremony then you may want to consider a hotel room or an AirBnB if your wedding guests are at the only hotel.

We don’t have access to our venue until noon, so my plan is to do hair at my fiancé’s dad and stepmom’s house and makeup at the venue in the bridal suite while he’s at his mom’s house so the photographer can get some getting ready pics. Our wedding isn’t until October 2021 though so things could change, but right now that’s my ideal timeline. Smiley smile

For daughter's wedding, everyone got ready at the parents' homes, but over Thanksgiving last year we were staying in a Hampton Inn while visiting family in north Texas and there was a large wedding that had pretty much taken over the hotel that weekend. They booked a small meeting room at the hotel that was just off the large area where the hotel serves breakfast every morning. It seemed like they had a ton of women getting hair & make-up done with multiple HMUAs set up in the meeting room; a lot of them wandered in and out of the breakfast room in various states of being done with the HMUA....

If you go the Airbnb route, just make sure to research it carefully -- there can be a lot of rules (max number of people, perhaps a 2+ night minimum, cleaning fees, noise, parking, etc.), and depending on how many people will be getting their HMUA done, most private homes are not necessarily set up with great space/lighting for HMU stations. Also, hairspray and other products can get on floors/counters/etc. and either leave you with a mess to clean up or extra cleaning fees.

Another option might be to find a salon where you can all go (and kind of take over) for HMUA, then just put your dresses on at the venue, in a hotel room, etc. Perhaps your FMIL might be able to recommend some options. Good luck!

For my wedding, our venue had a special bridal suite for my girls and I to get ready it. It included two large connected rooms, a bar area and a bathroom. It was great to have so much space. My husband and his guys got ready in a hotel room and it was very crammed and you can definitely tell in photos so if you plan on having getting ready photos I would check out the hotel rooms you plan on getting ready in to make sure there is enough space. If the room is small, I would definitely recommend getting an Air Bnb.

My wedding is local and actually right across the street from my fiancés parents house, He will be getting ready at his parents and I will be getting ready down the street at my friends house. The closest hotel is 15 minutes away but i wanted to be close to the venue. I wouldn't recommend getting ready at the same house as your fiancé just in case he accidentally "sees" you before the ceremony. I would just go with the Hotel room, your girls can make it fancy for you!

We will be doing a first look to get the pictures out of the way before the ceremony

For my uncles wedding we got ready in the brides home, he got ready at my grandmas home, I was a bridesmaid. I guess it just worked out for them at the time. An air bnb sounds nice if it lets the ladies get ready, give you that girl getting ready time.

I think doing it at a hotel is really helpful because they have lots of things on hand but you could do the same in an Airbnb! It's really up to you and what's in your budget if you want to! I got a resort for my girls and me the night before then it's my FH and I's room after that for a few days! I have my MUA coming to me at are hotel/resort thing! I am not sure if you want to spend some time with your BMs before the wedding day and have them all in one spot to get ready with or if you want to go with separating it out and get ready at the venue? Really up to you! I hope this helps!

There wasn’t a getting ready space at either of the weddings I have been in. We went and got our hair done in the morning and then did our makeup and changed in the bathroom at the venue. And my friend and her now husband stayed at their house, but he stayed in the guest room and left early in the day so they didn’t see each other.
I know some people are very into the getting ready pictures but I’ve never experienced that.

Alot of brides get ready (with bridesmaids) at her home or at the ceremony venue. Both of those typically have a larger bathroom/mirror space for a crowd than a hotel.

If you have the budget to rent a cool air bnb I would! It would be fun to have a large place for everyone to get ready together. You could also do a brunch with all the girls too!

I really like the idea of adjoining rooms! Maybe I'll lean towards something like that. Our church is in my husbands town and our venue is further away in another town. They offer a bridal suite, but I can't get ready there and then come to church to go back again. I thought about it though haha. Thanks for the feedback!

I do want that tradition of not seeing each other while we get ready. And his parent's house is not big enough for both parties to get ready. I think a hotel may be my best bet. Thank you!

That sounds like a great plan! I'm glad you have it all planned out. I hope your timeline stays the same. It feels so far, but it's going to come so fast!! Smiley smile

I've always gotten ready for friends weddings at hotels and it's been fun. We bring snacks and music.

I really like that meeting room idea!! Thank you for the advice. There are A LOT of salons in the area, maybe I'll look into that too! I am defiantly leaning more towards a hotel than an Airbnb.

I am all about the snacks!! I think I may go with the hotel idea. It seems to be the best fit for our location, and time line. Thanks for your help!!

Our venue had rooms where we could get ready. They were actually dance studios, so they had lots of mirrors and light. The venue set up tables and chairs and drinks for us. My BP came half ready, and my parents and I got fully ready there.

DH got ready at his parents' place, with his crew.
