Getting ready with bridesmaids?

May Bride, on May 7, 2016 at 8:09 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 7

It seems like brides get their hair/makeup done with their bridesmaids or lounges in robes in a nice room before the wedding. Or at least that's what gets photographed most!

The plan is to have my mom, MOH, and I get our hair and makeup done at a salon, and then head over to the venue, arriving an hour before the ceremony. It worked out this way by chance because of my girls' hair/makeup preferences but I also don't mind because it is fewer people to worry about for logistics. My other three girls will join us at the venue around the same time or a bit closer to ceremony time.

My question is, is this okay? If someone else posted this thread, I would reassure them that it's perfectly fine. But I feel like I'm violating some wedding expectation and not giving the bridesmaids a proper wedding party experience.

The only expectation for a wedding is that you get married, and host your guests properly.

If this is what worked for you and your schedule, then that's fine! As long as everyone gets to the ceremony on time, any closer than an hour beforehand doesn't leave much room for traffic and other things that could happen.

Getting ready all together every step of the way can get hectic and stressful, especially with larger bridal parties. You will still have time to spend with them before the ceremony, and you can use that time to relax and have fun with your best girls!

It really comes down to space. When my sister was married all the BM's stayed at my parents house (big family meant big house) so we had room to get ready in and enough showers for everyone. We all opted to get hair and makeup done at their house so it worked. Last wedding I was in, we had a regular size hotel room to get dressed in and it was SNUG. I think there were 10 of us in there to get dressed and do make up. There was no photographer there but that was a blessing.

Thanks ladies! Yeah, it feels irrational to worry about it because it makes sense all around. Plus, I'll have time with them before the ceremony and during dinner.

I was in a wedding that did this and it worked it great. Whatever works best logistically is what you should do

This basically sounds like my plan. My venue only has a small bridal suite so it is impractical to think we'll all get ready in there. I was considering having all the girls meet up at a nearby hotel (that we are all staying in after) and go over to the venue together. But considering my ceremony is at 7pm, it's definitely NOT going to be one of those "we're all together from the crack of dawn" type of things.

It's totally fine! Give them the choice of getting ready or doing whatever they want - as long as they're at the venue on time!
