Getting ready timeline

Brittany, on May 6, 2022 at 12:47 PM Posted in Planning 6 12
I am working on my getting ready timeline and it’s been a little stressful. I want to make sure my vendors have the time they need not just with me but with the bridesmaids. without being too ridiculously early. I have 7 girls getting hair done. Potentially 2 flower girls. So 8-9. I have 4 girls (maybe a 5th) getting makeup done. Its so hard to know how much time i need without knowing what hairstyles all my girls want. its just hard to coordinate all this 14 months away lol. Any suggestions you can think of? Also let me know how your timeline planning is going if your in the same stage as me! Smiley smile Getting ready timeline 1

I don't know how many hairstylists you hired, but my hair alone took almost an hour so I think you don't have enough time here for hair and makeup unless you have a huge team of stylists/artists. Also hair and makeup can be happening at the same time.

Do you have a Hair & Make-Up artist booked already? They should definitely be helping you with this and as long as you tell them your "ready" time, they will tell you how much time they need. If you only have one person for hair and one for make-up, that doesn't look like enough time at all for nine people. Also don't stress yourself out about the timeline this far out Smiley smile I think most couples hammer out those details 2-3 months before the wedding when more details are finalized.

This totally depends on who you hire, but a rule of thumb is:
Hair: 30 min for down or half up, 45-1hr for updo
Makeup: 45 min for "natural glam" 1hr+ for full glam
Hair and makeup can be happening at the same time, but most artists prefer not on the same person at the same time. So girl 1 can be doing Hair while girl 2 does makeup, and then just keep rotating girls. Like PP suggested, ask how many of each artist are coming.
Ask photographer about the pictures timing, again this depends on how many people you have/what you want/if you're doing first look and other bride/groom portraits.
Also, it is recomended to arrive at your venue 10-15 minutes before guests do. Typically 45 min before ceremony. This gives time to see and approve the decor, "hide" from guests, do any touch ups, go to the bathroom, etc before the ceremony starts.
You've still got a while to go, I found that despite my timeline planning it was pretty up in the air until the week before! Then things solidified.

Im working on booking with them right now. I am just in the stage of filling out the contracts. You are right though. since they are only asking for a end time, they probably will help me to figure out a start time. I just don't want any of my vendors to get booked up with someone else so i am all over the place trying to secure them.

Thank you for all the good advice. Though the idea of things not being able to be solidified over a year out terrifies me haha.

    I feel ya!
To be 10000% honest, you will have a lot of things "solidified" and they will change in the last month. I had my timeline done months in advance and it absolutely changed 1-2 weeks before the wedding, but everything worked out well!

It's super great to get it done ahead of time and have a game plan, but don't stress about it too much! Just remember to stay flexible and really take the Vendors advice during the last month because if you trust who you hired they really know best and will make sure everything runs smoothly

I would add that you should have food available while you're getting ready. It's easy now to say you're going to have a "healthy yummy breakfast" but my stomach was in knots and all I wanted was a cereal bar. We had antipasto trays, cookies, and fruit/veg trays (and drinks, obv) to pick at starting at 11:30ish and it allowed me to eat enough I didn't pass out.

For a 6:00 ceremony, we were at the salon at 9 (with 4 artists), then makeup (1 artist) came to the venue at 11 for 2 moms, 3 BMs, and me.

I agree that your hair and makeup team should be able to give you a time when they would need to start. If you have one artist/ company for makeup and another for hair then they'd coordinate between themselves. When I booked mine I said we'd need to leave by 12:30 PM, and they told me that they'd have to start at 7:30 AM.

I'm definitely big on making lists and solidifying things ASAP, but this is one of those things that you usually have to rely on someone else to set up.

When in doubt as far as timelines, consult your photographer, month of coordinator, and beauty team. They work weddings every weekend so they are familiar with the scheduling and it is also part of their job description to provide you with a timeline related to the services they are providing. That’s something I would leave to the pros to figure out.
