Getting ready photos, no matching outfits?

Emma, on August 12, 2020 at 2:11 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 13
I want getting ready photos. After work hours getting cut it’s just something we cannot afford. We have our photographer already booked and she’ll be there while we are getting ready. What should I do? I was thinking of just telling my bridesmaids to wear either black leggings or black pj pants, and whatever top they would like. I would never ask then to buy something specific for getting ready. I know they all have black leggings or pj bottoms. I’m really just stuck for tops

I think the black leggings/PJ pants is a good idea! If you wanted to, you could ask them all to wear a certain color top, or just let them pick out whatever they want. Or you could specify things like, "no words on the shirt" or "any color except orange" or "short sleeve only", and let them pick out what they already have that matches the request. Would they all have a shirt that matches one of your wedding colors? That could be a fun thing to do, or ask them to wear whatever shade of blue (or whatever color) that they want.

You could do coordinating outfits of the same color like a white shirt or another color and their black leggings. You can still have getting ready photos without a set outfit. I have a bride robe I got due to a credit with DB but I am letting my MOH wear what she wants.

I like that idea! I was kinda thinking just the black bottoms a grey shirt sleeves. I figure most of them would have that!

I agree, that sounds like something that most people would have! That would work well for getting ready photos!

My best friend did something similar, we all wore black pants/leggings and we each had a flannel top on (she got married in the fall and it’s suggested that everyone wears a button up shirt). I thought it looked cute. You could ask that everyone wear the same or a similar color top if flannel doesn’t work for you.

Oh flannels could work! We are getting married October 3rd so I guess it’ll depend on the weather which I do!

All of our bridesmaids just wore whatever they were comfortable in. If you’re requiring something specific, you should pay, and that just wasn’t an expense that was worth it to us. Coordinating “getting ready” outfits (and getting ready photos even) didn’t become a thing until the last couple of years. I don’t think that any couple has looked at their photos and thought “dang, I wish we all matched!”

Yea that’s why I’m just going to ask for black bottoms and (now) either a grey shirt or flannel depending on the weather. I know for a fact they all have those items already. Then it’ll be coordinated not matching 😂

The only thing with the T-shirt is that they have to pull them over their heads to take them off. I'd ask them to wear either a button down or a tank top so it's easy to take off without messing up their hair/makeup.

I didn't specify any attire. They just wore what they wanted. It all looked cute. Plus, it's not like the getting ready photos are the ones that get hung up above the mantle or anything.

No one has to match. The black leggings/pj pants sound cute. Make sure you're all in button up tops to avoid messing up hair/makeup.

You have a great idea! asking them to wear those basic things they probably have would look cohesive
