Getting ready outfits

Shannon, on April 23, 2020 at 4:34 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 18
I’m torn on whether or not I should get matching outfits for my bridesmaids and I to get ready. We are not doing professional getting ready photos because I don’t think it’s worth the extra cost. One of my bridesmaids has a nice camera and does photography on the side so we are gonna take a few pics with hers but nothing fancy. I was thinking of getting t shirts with everyone’s monogram just cause I know they will wear them again but not sure if I should use that money on a different gift for each of them. That wouldn’t be the only gift I get them obviously, I’m planning on getting them a couple personal gifts as well. Has anyone done the matching outfits and regretted it or felt it wasn’t worth it? Thank you!

If monogrammed shirts are something that your bridesmaids would usually pick out and wear on their own, I think that's fine. We didn't do specific getting ready outfits and our photos were fine. Everyone just wore what they were comfortable in.

Because of coronavirus we most likely will only have parents/siblings so I'll prob just have my mom with me getting ready. I decided to get here s robe that says "Mother of Bride" on back and myself a bride one and I know she is going to love it! Depending on how many bridesmaids you have it could be expensive! If you get matching robes or outfits i think that's a great/plenty of gifts!

I didn’t do matching outfits. Any matching thing I’ve been given to wear for a wedding (I’ve been a bridesmaid 14 times) has ended up in the trash or donated. So it’s definitely a know your crowd thing.

14 weddings?! Holy smokes, girl... you’re more than half way to becoming Katherine Heigl’s character in 27 Dresses!

Do you donate and throw away the dresses as well?

Yup! I didn’t keep any of the dresses. Some donated and some were stained or had a ripped zipper etc so they went in the trash.

Oh wow that’s a lot! Lol since you’ve been a bridesmaids so many times, what were some of your favorite gifts given to you by the brides?

Honestly pretty much every gift I’ve been given I haven’t kept. But that’s because it’s been all stereotypical stuff like getting ready outfits, a tumbler, a tote bag, various bath things that I’ll never use etc. I like when hair or makeup is paid for because that’s useful. And I gave my girls gift cards because I wanted them to have something they could actually use. I do have one tote bag that I still use for other weddings and one makeup bag that I still use to hold random things in a drawer lol. But those were gifts from 6 or 7 years ago before things started piling up the more weddings I’ve been in! And they were higher quality that have held up. I see so many posts on here that say where is the cheapest place to buy this for bridesmaid gifts? And those are the things that won’t get a lot of use because they won’t hold up.

Be careful with t-shirts only because they are very difficult to take off once hair and makeup have been done!

Not sure when your wedding is, but my SIL got married in October 2018 and she bought all of her bridesmaids flannels to wear while getting ready. She asked us to wear a tank top and black leggings and then we wore the flannel with it —she had a photographer there. She didn’t have the flannels customized, but she got them all from American eagle in different colors (she got them on sale so it wasn’t too pricey). It’s nice because they are button up so it was easy to take off with having our hair and makeup done. It was really cute and I still wear mine! I’ve also seen brides get matching robes on Etsy...

I was in a wedding where the bride gifted us matching robes to get ready in and I still use the robe three years later! They weren't personalized and were a fun surprise on her day. They looked great in the photos too! These were the robes she bought, in mint.

I got my bridesmaids 2 identical satin robe from Victoria Secret, and I am ordering a boudoir lace robe (will use it for our boudoir photo session and honeymoon). We all use robes at home, so it would be usable.

My girls and I have coordinating PJ's and we LOVE them. My wedding is not until December now and the girls are already wearing them as they are so comfy. We got them online at Etsy. The girls had the choice of their name, first initial or 3 initials. Mine has my new initials and our wedding date on the sleeve, I'll have to get that corrected when this is all over and alterations shops are open again. I think it would be super cute if y'all did coordinating t-shirts, have you considered long sleeved button downs with their first initial? You could get them into a color that in your wedding and you could wear a white/ivory one.

I’m getting married in October so I definitely thought of this I think it’s so cute! My bridesmaids are not a fan of flannels so I know they wouldn’t get worn again 😭 love this idea though I bet the photos looked super cute!

Button down's are best so no one has to pull their shirt up over their head (think hair and make up done) to get dressed for the ceremony.
