Getting Ready Outfits

Madison, on December 8, 2020 at 8:29 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 1 17
I really shouldn’t be putting this much thought into this, but I’m really struggling figuring out what to get for bridesmaids to wear on the wedding day to get ready in.

I’m not a huge robe fan ... I wore one for a friends wedding and I was uncomfortable all day long. The wedding is in March, so I don’t want girls in tank tops and shorts, which I wore for another wedding. Not a huge fan of flannels either. I love the idea of making the gift useful too, something they’ll be able to continue to wear. Are nicer zip-up hoodies and leggings nice enough? I found a cute cropped sweatshirt from Aerie, I’m just not ready to pull the plug because I fear they’ll look tacky in pictures. I guess I just need to be able to picture what will look good/see it together and done before.
Bottom line, I want everyone to be comfortable, it’s a long day. I also want everyone to feel great and for things to look cohesive in getting ready pictures. Any ideas/thoughts are welcome! I’d love to see pictures of other ideas!

Getting ready attire and jewelry is not a gift because it's photo props for you. Let them wear whatever they like from their own closet unless you prefer/require a specific look. Button up shirts are essential to keep from messing up hair/makeup. They can be paired with hoodies, sweatpants or leggings, whichever they prefer.

I’m going to put too much emphasis on that- planning on everyone wearing button up shirts so they won’t have to pull anything over their heads & ruin their hair & makeup. Black leggings so they’ll be comfortable.

I provided robes for my bridal party, however we all wore black leggings and a T-shirt/tank-top, not planned, just happened. And we were all so comfy we didn’t even wear the robes. In my personal opinion the photos looked fine!

I’m considering asking the hotel that we are staying in to have housekeeping bring up a few of the cozy white robes from the hotel spa. They’re so much better than those silk robes!!

I just had my bridal party wear whatever they wanted that they already owned. The photos looked cohesive and cute. Everyone was comfortable, and it was 1 less thing to worry about.

I like seeing people as they are, in their own things, not all the same like dolls someone dressed up. Let them wear their own button down shirts and leggings, or sundresses. Matchy matchy gets boring.

Ask your ladies. There are a lot of us, at least one in addition to me in every wedding I have been in for years, who will not ever wear a robe, pajamas, or any state of partial undress, for any photo. Because they end up on the internet. These getting ready in robes or shirts that match snapshots are a fairly recent fad that I hate to begin with. But you will find some will wear robes and pj's or short nighties, and some won't. So ask your specific ladies, not us.

I think zip up hoodies and leggings should be fine.

I think that a hoodie and leggings would be cute, but your bridesmaids may get hot. What about an oversized shirt and leggings?

I wanted my bridal party to be comfortable too, so I let them wear whatever they wanted to while we were getting ready.

However, if you really want everyone in matching outfits, the zip hoodie and legging idea is fine. Just make sure it is in fact a zip or button top so they don't ruin their hair taking it off over their head.

The hoodies and leggings are a super cute idea!! And it's great because they'll be the most comfortable, and they can wear that after the wedding has passed. I also don't think they'll look tacky or ugly in pictures!

I'm not a huge robe fan either, so I'm leaning towards a button up pajama set. I found one at target for a really great price! If I change my mind on that, then I'm looking into a flowy shirt and joggers for my girls. Our wedding is going to be in January, so I want them to be comfy and warm.

I'm letting them wear whatever they want to get ready in. Just something they feel comfortable in, because there will be getting ready photos taken.

I’d just let them wear whatever they are comfortable in and can easily be removed without messing up hair and makeup! Some people are always hot, others cold, etc. and sizing can be difficult, as every company’s clothing fits differently.

I'm getting married in October (but out here in AZ so it will still be warm) I asked my girls what they would prefer - robe, silk pajama set; shorts or pants, long button down pajama shirt, or just regular cotton pj's. I only have 4 bridesmaids so it was easy for all of them to agree, we ended up choosing silk pajamas but with shorts not pants.

If you're able to, get their input and go with the majority.
