Getting ready attire?

FutureStephD, on June 25, 2018 at 5:31 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 26

I'm curious if people are going to do matching attire for the bridal party while getting ready? I see a lot of coordinating robes and pajamas but I'm curious if this is a fad that's overdone? Any unique "outfits" people are planning to do? I'm debating if I want to match/ coordinate or not... TIA!

I got my bridesmaid matching tank tops from MrsBridalShop.com. Our wedding is on the beach in Florida so we are going to do pics on the beach in the tanks Smiley smile. We also have events planned where we all hang out and will be wearing the tanks too (renaissance faire and San genero festival in NYC so far in sept). They loved them! Hot pink with glitter to match my color theme.

I’d try not to be too concerned about something being overdone. If it’s something you’d personally enjoy and your girls would enjoy then do it. Some alternatives I’ve seen to robes are wide neck cotton T-shirt’s, or button down cotton shirts.

I ordered these really soft jersey robes that I honestly can’t wait to wear and will continue to wear after the wedding. I think If you do robes try to limit the monogramming, avoid wedding titles and get something high quality enough in a more neutral color that they would still want to use at home.

I think it's kind of silly, to be honest. Why buy something for a photo prop that will only be used once?

We wore whatever was easy and didn't have to be pulled over the head for getting ready pics.

I wish I never browsed Etsy because I've seen a lot of cute things on there I'd like to do the morning of my wedding, lol. I plan to maybe do the oversized button flannel shirts because I like the look of them. I'm a person that likes to match too so I think it'd be a fun thing to do while we're getting ready.

I think robes are cute plus then if you got girls with little to no boundaries you can still get pics of everyone getting ready without having to leave out one girl coz she was doing makeup in her knickers Smiley smile

This made me laugh. I have the opposite situation. Whenever I share a hotel room or air bnb with one of my bridesmaids if I walk out of the bathroom in a bra and underwear she reminds me that she’s not from a naked family 😂.

I got my bridespersons oversized purple button down shirts with their names embroidered on the pockets (and I had a similar white one with "Bride" on it for me). I made sure to really emphasize to everyone that, aside from a handful of staged photos with the shirts later on, everyone should feel free to get ready in whatever they felt comfortable in and that it was 100% OK if that did not wind up being the embroidered button down.

All 6 bridesmaids enthusiastically wore them all morning for hair and makeup, and my bridesman happily put on his too when he dropped by the house for pictures later in the morning. I think it helped that I had already given out their real bridesperson gifts at the bachelorette, so nobody felt like they had to pretend to be excited about getting a "gift" that was obviously a prop.

Totally not doing those “getting ready” photos. To me, it’s too much and I don’t want to put money into a prop for my girls and just would rather use it to get them something nicer for their gifts. The only picture my photographer would like that would resemble “getting ready” is all my girls in their BM drssses, and me in something different. Good thing someone got me a floral robe, so I’ll wear that and then the photographer wants the photos of my girls zipping me up, putting on the shoes, etc. so no, I’m not a fan of those getting ready photos as it’s not natural for me and don’t even want the ones the photographer wants to do, but since I do have to get dressed at the venue in order to not wrinkle the dress, then fine....I’ll do it. What does matter to me, and this is another conversation, is the first look between my FH and I.

If you are doing getting ready pictures I'd opt for cute outfits. It really makes for cute and fun pictures. If you aren't doing getting ready pictures then I'd skip it

Thanks everyone! Interesting to hear who is doing what. And Shinee, me too. I can't stay off Etsy, it's a problem!

I'm not doing anything matching. I just told my BP to wear something comfortable. We won't be taking professional pictures for getting ready, honestly most of that will be at my salon and then at the house we are getting ready in it will be basically having some mimosas and putting our dresses on. I'll have non professional pictures for that so personally for me I don't care what anyone wears.

We didn't do anything matching--not really my thing (my BMs' dresses didn't match either) and also we weren't doing photos during the getting-ready time so it really wasn't a priority to look presentable Smiley winking

If it's something that you really want to do and something you like, go for it. I'd just make sure that whatever you get your party is something that they can wear again.

I personally won't be doing it because, while the photos look neat, I don't like the idea of everyone looking the same. I think it kind of erases things that make my girls stand out and that's what I want pictures of. But that's just me.

Awww, that's sweet! I have a BM that wants everyone to wear the same jewelry, shoes and have the same type of hairstyle and nails. She's concerned one will be off the wall with crazy heels and bright nails. I said that's okay, that's why I love her and what makes her unique. I'll figure it out. I would just give robes or PJs and not as a gift, I hate it when people give things that are being used for their wedding as a gift - IMO it's not a gift! Haha.

I'm going to get "matching" flannels (as in all flannel shirts, different colors) or monogrammed buttondowns when it gets into the fall.

I'm still doing robes! They may be overdone, but I love robes and found nice cotton ones so my BM can suck it up! The other thing I was considering was rompers but I'm going with robes.

When I was a BM we wore whatever was comfortable. We didn't match anything or wear robes.

I don't think it's overdone in any way. And even if it was, I don't think I would particularly care. So go ahead and get the matching monogrammed tank tops or flannel shirts. I think they make great pictures.

Personally, I was thinking about buying my BMs standard satin robes without a monogram or any embroidery that they could wear again. And then I would also wear a robe but it be either lacey or monogrammed or both. I don't mind monogrammed things but some are of the opinion that they aren't reusable because no one is going to want to wear a robe/shirt/top that says 'Bride'/'Bride Tribe'/'Bridesmaid' more than once.

The choice is all yours really.
