Getting Ready at different locations

Erin, on November 3, 2019 at 10:02 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 9

Hi all!

Getting ready! Is it reasonable to ask our videographers/photographers to split up and go to different locations for getting ready? We are thinking about the guys getting ready at my fiancés parents house (about 25 min from venue) and the girls getting ready at a hotel down the street from the venue. Our packages are for 2 videographers and 2 photographers. Is it unreasonable to ask them for one to be with the girls and one to be with the guys even though its a 20 mile difference? I'd be willing to pay extra in travel expenses if it was necessary.

Thanks for your advice!

I don't think it's unreasonable, however, that may not be the way they want to do things. I would just let them know that you're getting ready at two different locations and let them tell you their preference.

We are getting ready at different hotels but they are down the street from each other. Our photographer will be with me and the second photographer will be with the men.

I definitely think it’s ok to ask but they may not want to go along with it.

I think that is fine, and typical. We both got ready at the venue, each in our own cabins; however, we each got our own photographer and videographer. That is one of the major perks of have 2 of each!

Absolutely not. Just tell them your plans. I’d be surprised if they said no. Our photographer suggests them starting up to 2 hours difference in times for maximum photography coverage. However, since we do want getting ready photos at 2 locations, we will probably only start 1 hr difference. We’ve been told that the bulk of what they want to shoot with 2 shooters is the ceremony and reception so they don’t miss as much Smiley smile.

I would just ask them if they will do it, and what potential travel costs this would add. Every photographer I spoke with shopping around went over this with me actually, and it was pretty much all the same, standard base cost if it was just traveling to one hotel, then the venue. Added travel costs if photographers needed to go separate ways, because now there’s added expenses on their end to need to drive separately instead of riding together.

Oops I should have said absolutely based on your question, not absolutely not Smiley smile. Absolutely it should be ok for them to do 2 locations. PP is right, though. Depending on their travel plans you may need to check with them on an additional cost. Mine don’t plan to travel together, generally.

Not unreasonably at all. Just make sure they have a heads up, so they know what they need equipment and transportation wise!
