Getting married in a church you don't belong to.

Christine, on January 9, 2014 at 11:02 AM Posted in Planning 0 7

Hi Smiley smile My fiance and I are looking to book a venue in basking ridge. We would like to get married in a Lutheran church in the area, but we are currently live in PA. Does anyone know of a local church that allows weddings for non- parishioners?

If you attend a lutheran church in PA, your church might be able to "recommend" you a church in the basking ridge area.

Call and ask the churches near where you want to get married. Most just make you pay more $$ to use their church. For example, the church I belong to only takes "donations" as payments if they host your wedding. For non members they charge them $600. It just depends on the church.

Thanks. It's a bit complicated because I was raised Roman Catholic (8 years of catholic school and all) but I do not regularly attend any kind of church at present, but am looking to find a new church of a different Christian denomination. I can picture myself going 1-2 times a month realistically, but I'm not sure how active of a member you need to be...and trying to find one out of state just makes it more complicated :/

I attend church an hour away from where I live and we knew we did not want to make all our guests drive that far. I asked my pastor for churches in the area where our reception is and he recommended a few. I called around and found out that the one we liked the most will let us get married there and will allow our pastor to come into their church to do so. I am so excited that he is going to drive down here for us and that this church is going to allow us to utilize it. It's so beautiful and in an awesome location. Good luck! Smiley smile

I'm not Lutheran (I'm Catholic) and the Catholic churches do allow you to get married at different churches...you just won't have the discounted price if you're not a parishioner...it might be the same deal with Lutheran churches.

Why does it have to be a lutheran church then?

i believe UCC churches are more "flexible" with this than lutheran, but i am not lutheran so i'm kind of just going on assumption.

I am lutheran. If you have any questions about the practices or anything feel free to PM me I'll be happy to help you out.

We're pretty laid back. I like to call us the "hippie Catholics"

Also a good a neutral way to go would be a non-denominational church.
