Getting married during annual family vacay

Autum, on September 30, 2019 at 4:43 AM Posted in Planning 0 5
My soon-to-be mother in law suggested that my fiance and I get married in myrtle beach next year during their family's annual vacation. I think it's a good idea because that means 30+ guests have a guaranteed RSVP. Considering we live 6 hours away from myrtle beach, I was thinking about having a reception when we got home at his parents house (large backyard, entertaining area) anyway, I dont know where to start! How will I know who will get offended if they are not invited to the wedding? What should the itinerary look like? I don't want to force plans on their family vacation when its suppose to be a time to relax. Any thoughts?

I think its a good idea! People will already be there and will probably be glad they don't have to pay for a second trip to the beach for the wedding! It would be one day out of the vacation, so I don't think anyone would mind.

As far as offending those not invited to the beach ceremony, keep it very intimate. Maybe keep it family only, unless you want to have a bridal party, then family and bridal party. People may be a little hurt, but that is the risk people run when doing a destination wedding, they have to keep them small!

I would invite everyone you wanted at the beach wedding to the reception, and have your big party! Display pictures from the ceremony, maybe even decorate the area with the pictures with a beach theme!

I think you'll have an amazing time! Good luck planning! Smiley smile

Will you be inviting his entire family to the wedding? What about your family? I don’t know what your parent/sibling/family situation is but if my sister or one of my cousins I’m close with got married and invited the groom’s whole family and none of ours, that would cause a lot of issues.

For itinerary, I’d stick to a usual wedding timeline. Ceremony followed by a meal somewhere so that you aren’t taking up more than a few hours of everyone’s vacation.

I would put a lot of thought into this before agreeing. Is your family going to be able to attend, or will it be all his? What about friends, will they be invited? While you could get away without inviting friends if you’re having a home reception later, I know my family would be very hurt and upset if I married with only my fiancé’s family in attendance.
Also, think of the date itself. If they go to Myrtle Beach every year at the same time, do you want to be obligated to spend every anniversary there with his family? If you have it during next years vacation, are you going to feel like you’re a host for the week since it’s also your wedding week? Do you even want to get married that time of year or in Myrtle Beach?
Those are all things you and your fiancé need to consider. I personally would not agree to it. I would feel like it wasn’t my week, that my wedding was just an add on to their vacation. While it could be fun, it definitely wouldn’t be the right choice for everyone.

My brother did something similar. They eloped on the beach while on a family vacay in Hawaii. He found it to be waaaay less stressful than doing a more traditional wedding.
