Getting married at home

Monica, on April 25, 2020 at 9:34 PM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 1 9
For those that got married at home with a few family/friends, how did it go? Did you just have a simple ceremony and thats it or did you have food & drinks too? Did you decorate the house or did you leave it the way it is?

We want to elope at the courthouse on June 4th with immediate family there and then go out to eat down the st from the court at our favorite restaurant. But not sure if courts will be open and if restaurants will be open for dine by then so Im just thinking of a backup plan, which will be my backyard. It will be about 10 of us here

We did everything plain jane. I was so frustrated with how this whole thing turned out that I wanted the most simple ceremony. The goal was to leave enough room so that when we do get to celebrate it still comes with all the emotion and buildup that a bride and groom should experience.

Yea Im planning for the most traditional run of the mill for the ceremony. Did you do anything afterwards (dinner, drinks, etc) or just ceremony only?

Hi! I was supposed to have my wedding March 28th and it got postponed to June 27th. We still had a civil ceremony at home with 10 people. My cousin officiated the wedding for us. We decorated and had food/drinks, and a wedding
We wanted this day to be as much of a celebration as we could make it. I ordered most decorations off of amazon to make the backdrop but a lot of the decorations we had in preparation for the wedding (or from my shower).

I think decorating and celebrating after the ceremony really helps make it more real, at least for me it did. I was even able to make a small wedding album on Shutterfly afterwards! Getting married at home 1

Omgosh so pretty. Thanks so much for this! It gives me a little inspiration! Not that Im against our backyard wedding but I kinda felt like well how are supposed to do this and how to make it feel like a day worth celebrating not just a day we sign a paper. I have a ton of diy decorations that I made for the wedding but I think I will mostly decorate the house with all my flower garlands that I have. I also have a backdrop too. I might do something similar w a curtain and flowers.

We're doing ours in my parent's back yard by their pool! Only our immediate families will be there (plus our photographer and my uncle who is officiating). They had a cute mini pergola that I re-painted and I'm just going to hang some white curtains and some flowers from it.

Nothing too fancy, but classy enough to make it feel official. We're also live-streaming on YouTube so our grandparents can see.

In this unprecedented time, we just have to be really flexible and push our big celebrations to a later date... It's not what any of us originally wanted, but we can still make it fun and memorable!

    Hope yours turns out beautiful!

I have so many garlands in my wedding decorations box and I have a backdrop stand. I think decorating will definitely set the mood and make it feel official, well at least for me because I enjoy it. Thank you!

My husband and I had our wedding on April 4th, a week before our original date after we had to postpone the large celebration until the end of September. We had it at my parents' house in their backyard, with just our immediate family and our officiant, and we did a Zoom call for our loved ones to join in for the ceremony. I'm a freelance floral designer, so luckily I was able to use my skills to spruce things up and make it feel like a real wedding to me. I created a bouquet for myself and my groom's boutonniere with flowers I foraged and bought at a few grocery stores, put together two simple arrangements for the ceremony space, and added some bud vases and candles on the tables we had set up for the 'reception' dinner. For the dinner, we ordered some food from a local restaurant and had someone pick it up after the ceremony, I bought a cake and some individual tarts from a Hy-Vee bakery, and we had plenty of wine and champagne! Afterwards, my husband and I still did a first dance to the song we had picked for our wedding!

I'm so glad we still went forward with a small wedding on our original date, I was probably more present and in the moment with my husband and family than I would have been with our big wedding celebration. All in all, do whatever is going to make the day still feel special for you and your future spouse. Even if you can't have all the elements of the wedding you were planning , I promise you that it will still be a magical day and a memory you will cherish forever!

Our date is June 6. Our originally wedding plans of course, got super messed up but we’ve decided to have a small intimate ceremony on our date. Our new plan is to have it in my parents backyard with parents, siblings/spouses, one set of grandparents and our friends in our wedding party and our officiant. We sent out postponed cards but there are a few friend that may come and stay in the neighbors yard for the ceremony. We’re going to have masks for everyone, chair will be distanced appropriately. It’s going to be beautiful. I’m very excited! I can’t believe I’m getting married in 20 days!! AHH!! 😃😀
