Getting B.o. smell out of wedding dress

Amanda, on April 6, 2018 at 5:53 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 13
I picked up my dress from David's Bridal yesterday after being altered. It fits great, but I noticed when I put it on that the armpits were a bit stinky. When I was getting my alterations done I didn't think to wear extra strength deodorant and I was sweating a bit.

I read online about putting a cup or two of white vinegar in a steaming bath and letting it steam the dress. I want to try that, but am a bit worried it might damage the lace? Any ideas? I don't really have the budget to take it to be cleaned.

I don't want to risk staining the fabric or simply masking the smell

Vinegar shouldn't stain the lace. Maybe you can ask a dry cleaning place to clean the pits?

I would think it would go away? Or if you just wear deodorant when you get married it'll be fine?

I highly recommend going to a dry cleaners and just requesting the pits to be cleaned. Since it's such an important piece of clothing it's better not risk it and to rather be safe than sorry. At least call a few different dry cleaners and ask for a quote? And maybe ask if vinegar would damage it? (Although from a business perspective they can't really say yes, because they don't want to be liable) Honestly the risk or having to endure the smell, it's worth the money to be completely satisfied. I just read that misting the smelly area with vodka (yes, vodka) will get the smell out.

I was just going to suggest vodka. It seriously works! Put a little bit in a spray bottle and spray it on the stink. Alcohol kills bacteria and vodka evaporates away quickly leaving no stain or smell.

I put bowls of white wine vinegar and open boxes of baking soda or powder(i forget which) in my car to deoderize it and almost a year later it still smells like vinegar lol I can't speak for clothing but for my car it did NOT work.

Don't go near that dress girl get the pits cleaned. Even if you try to do it yourself, you may not get all the stink out 😐

I used to work in a theatre costume shop and we had a number of people who would get sweaty and smelly in their very nice costumes. Obviously we couldn’t get them dry-cleaned between each show, so, like one pp suggested, we used vodka in a spritzer and made sure to air it out. It was the only thing we found that would work. Maybe hang it in a room with a fan. Maybe by an open window for a couple of hours, but that would make me too nervous personally.

I second the spray bottle with vodka -- it works like a charm.... spray the inside and let it air dry.
