Getaway Car

on March 10, 2021 at 2:52 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 13

We are getting married at a venue in the heart of downtown Greenville. Our plan is to do our send off, and then have the guests who want to continue to party come downtown with us while we are all in our best dress/suits. In my mind, I've just imagined us all walking together with our photographer from the venue since it's all somewhat together.

I am wondering if it would be silly to have a getaway car - my fiancé is a police officer and thinks it would be fun to have a patrol car as our getaway car. He hasn't really put a ton of personal opinion into the wedding this far so I would like to give him what he's asking for! But if we are going downtown..from downtown, I just don't know where the getaway car would take us. It would be fun for pictures but I don't know how to make it work.

Any ideas on how to make this work?!

Get an Uber. I can't imagine any police department allowing that to happen (a patrol car as a taxi).

My fiancé has actually asked and they are surprisingly more than willing to let an off duty officer escort us! And it would likely be a friend/acquaintance of my FH who would love to do it.

That would be awesome! Maybe the photographer can get pics of you guys getting “arrested “?

Drive around the block and then walk with your friends! Or drive to the party and wait for people to walk over. You’ll still get the pictures and give your FH what he wants. I think it could make for cute pictures.

I think giving your fiancé what he wants with the patrol car is a fun idea. Even if the car does not actually take you anywhere, it would be fun for photos.

Oh my gosh, definitely! He has a laundry list of "back of the cop car" pictures he is requesting LOL

I'm thinking that's the best idea! Maybe the ride from the venue to whatever place we decided to start the celebration would be the perfect amount of time to get the cute pictures!

Such a fun idea, definitely do it!!
If it helps, I’ve seen friends do similar. Even if you just drive around the block it will give you two a minute (almost) alone, which is nice. You may also want to stop to freshen up a bit and change shoes/dress/etc before going out, depending on how difficult your wedding look is to navigate at a bar.

Whew, didn't even think about how nice that little ride may be for a needed breather with my new husband, so true! I'll change into a jumpsuit right before the send off, luckily! But I expect (hope) to have so much fun dancing the night away that I sweat off my makeup LOL so a minute to freshen up will be helpful too!

Do you really want to be rolling up to the bar in a cop car? Maybe this is more of a know your crowd thing. My family and friends would be horrified especially with the current policing and racial climate.

Of the 11 groomsmen my fiancé has, 9 of them are other police officers - as is a good bit of our wedding guests. So our friends and family would love this idea! We won't be planning any part of our wedding around the 'current policing and racial climate'. I'm marrying this man, so not a single bit of this would be mortifying for myself or anyone else at our wedding. Thank you for the feedback!
