Get married where we live or where our family lives

Hannah , on March 23, 2018 at 3:12 PM Posted in Planning 0 11
So we live in Florida, but our family lives in PA, the kind of wedding we want is cheaper for us where we live then where they live. We know the people who care will come, but the people who really don’t wont make the effort and that doesn’t bother either of us! Certain people (my mother) is making a big deal about it because her father (who doesn’t care about either one of us) won’t come if it’s in Florida. Personally I don’t care I didnt even want to invite him, but she’s mad at me and I don’t know what to do.

Let her be mad. She'll get over it. Unless she's paying for it, she has no say in where you decide to have your wedding. And even if she IS paying for it, she can offer opinions but it is still your wedding to plan and your job to make decisions that are best for you and your FH.

Have it where you want! My family lives in California, where I’m from, but we’re having a Texas wedding. My FW is from Texas, once she retires from the military we will be permanently living in Texas so I want to spend as much time there as possible. I realize that having it there means a good chunk of my family won’t be attending, it is what it is!

Having it where you live will make your life easier. Appointments to look at venues, meet with djs, photographers, florists, dress fittings, caterers. Planning a destination wedding would mean a lot more work for you, less control and choice of vendors, more cost in research (travel), where do your bridesmaids live? If your grandfather can't be bothered to come, his loss.

My FH and I are both from the Philly suburbs, and the majority of our families still live there. I fell in love with a vineyard venue in VA so that's where we're having the wedding. It's a 4.5-5 hour drive for about 95% of our guests, and the only person to complain so far has been my dad. He thinks it's a waste to have a wedding so far away, but I put him in his place. Have the wedding you want, where you want!

My FH moved to CT from FL. We live in MA now. All of his family is still in FL. But we never considered getting married in FL. We live in MA, this is where our lives are. His family that want to be here will be here.

Have the wedding where you want! FH and I are getting married in my hometown in Delaware. We are having people come from far away including Florida, Ohio, Virginia, and Massachusetts!

My mom always says, "people do what they want to do."

Your mom will get over it. Have the wedding where you want to have it.

FH and I live in Illinois, but all of my family lives in Nebraska/Kansas. We are having the wedding in Illinois because it's easier on us to plan and it's where we have lived for almost 4 years. FH also grew up here.

Have it where you live. We moved to SC almost 3 years ago. Most of my family is here but all my close friends and bulk of bridal party is in NY. Most if FH family is in NY as well. His mom says she doesn't understand why we don't have the wedding in NY cause it's going to cost a lot for her to travel here. We are not getting married till fall mext year so family and friends have plenty of time to save to make the trip. Also, having the type of wedding we will here would cost us double if not triple in NY. And like you said the people who care will come.

Have the wedding where you want and those who want to make the effort to celebrate with you will be there. We are having our wedding in Mexico where my FH lives so all the Americans (and many of the Mexicans) have to fly to the wedding. But even if we had it in the US, almost everyone would have to travel a huge distance anyway because everyone is so spread out.
