It's really more about costs. A wedding cake to feed everyone will cost more than a sheet cake. So, it's based on costs and your own preference.

    Thirty people is GREAT!

The theory is that everyone shares your wedding cake. That's what I'd do; two stacked rounds (I think a 9 and 10" would do it, decorated with flowers. Much nicer than a sheet cake.

lol I was so surprised to see how these foam beautiful cake costs, and the cake I have in mind they can't even do a regular cake... so basically I'm paying for "foam" and art and a sheet cake for my guests

This was our cake and then we had a sheet cake for the rest of the guests which was kept in the kitchen. It was perfect and affordable!

Sarah, for your guest list, you could do a wedding cake and feed everyone with it! Check out Celia's post for more info.

A sheet cake will never look like a slice of wedding cake. Just spring for the cake; for 30 guests, it won't be that much different.

If I had that amount of guests I would definitely go for the pretty 3 tiered (or smaller) cake. I have over 200 guests and am only doing a 2 tier for me and FH and then sheet cake for everyone else

We ordered a small tier cake for FH and I and cupcakes for the guests. We invited around 30 people too and found this to be the most cost effective way to have cake. It ended up being 75$ from Publix.

Personally, I like the look of matching cupcakes but that's me.

For a small wedding, it won't cost you that much more for a cute cake instead of a sheet cake. I would definitely go with the nicer cake. You only get married once!

We're doing a two tier cake to have something pretty to display and cut then have a sheet cake in the back for everyone else to eat. We are having a lot more guests though, ~130 guests, so you should be able to get away with a small two tier cake and be just fine. As pp have said, try publix if there is one near you. They're cheaper and taste great

Sheet cakes are so much less expensive. The minute you put wedding in front of it the price goes through the roof. We are having approx the same number of people and found a sheet cake that we love and then a tiny wedding cake for FH and I

Get a tiered cake for you and your groom, have someone slice a sheet cake for the guests. Just do it in the kitchen. My Hawaiian cousin sliced a sheet cake from Costco. It looked like it too. Several guests commented that they "weren't good enough" for real cake.

Get a wedding cake big enough for everyone to have a small slice. Wedding cake slices are like 1 inch x 2 inch? and have another dessert available for those that want more. I know it sounds crazy, but if I go to a wedding I want some of the cake regardless how bad it might be! It's good luck!
