Geometric Terrariums

Danielle, on February 26, 2019 at 9:36 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 7

Hi all!

I'm on the hunt for 36 small geometric terrariums with at least partial glass/plastic enclosure (due to venue requirements) to encapsulate votive candles. I'll have 2 per table; 18 rectangular tables total, and they'll supplement some lanterns that I'm borrowing from my florist as centerpieces. I'm flexible on the specific shapes, though the diamond shaped ones are my favorite. I've scoured the internet (including wholesale sites, Amazon, WalMart, and aliexpress/alibaba), am keeping an eye on Craigslist, and have gone into Michaels and Target, but just can't seem to find them for what I'm hoping to spend. I live in a rural area, and don't have regular access to common stores, though I do go on trips out of town to metropolitan areas about once a month. Any suggestions for where I can find these for around $5-$10 dollars per piece? I'm super happy to capitalize on sales, use coupons, etc.

Thanks in advance for any help you might have!

Do you have a Hobby Lobby in your area? I bought several different sized ones there for my wedding. Also, the store ALWAYS has 50% off!!

Save-on-crafts.com and webstaurant.com have been favorite go- to places of mine for years . . Not exactly terrariums , but look at Food Storage Jars , glass candy jars around 64 oz with angled openings. Used without lids, they are like a terrarium jar. ( My MIL used 2 sizes of these for holding favors, and now I have as my kitchen canisters for baking things, from chocolate chips and coconut and caramels to pasta, various flours and corn meal. A plus, after the wedding!) www.webstaurantstore.com/choice-0-5-gallon-glass-penny-candy-jar-with-chrome-lid/553040070.html www.webstaurantstore.com/anchor-hocking-69590ahg17-1-gallon-glass-penny-candy-jar-with-chrome-lid/55069590.html www.save-on-crafts.com/catalogsearch/result/?q=glass+vase And see: 6" flat bottomed glass balls https://www.save-on-crafts.com/2-flat-bottom-6-glass-balls.html 12 and 17 oz brandy snifters are great, only if you use 3" LED votives, stemware only ok without real flames. LED votives, regular and submersible, are about $2 on Save-on-crafts. www.webstaurantstore.com/47095/cocktail-glasses.html?filter=type:brandy-glasses https://www.save-on-crafts.com/glass-terrarium-globe-7in.html. I did not do a thorough search, try Glass Vases and Glass Candle and terrarium, at save. And Barware , at Webstaurant.com if using LED votives. Only terrariums I saw in price range were hanging balls. But under Save-on-crafts.com vases there are sets of 18-36 glass pillar vases in many shapes designed for candles inside, 7-10" high, different shapes. When I used to work catering, these were okay as long as top of the glass was at least 3" higher than the top of the candle flame, meaning, 7" or 10" shaped cylinders met specs for fire laws, so no one reaching over the table would have sleeve on fire. Libbey, Richland and Eastland are big makers of glass candle holding vases, and shaped cylinders in the $6-10 per item categories. They work great, but having had to drop in and light 20-50 candles in cylinder vases before, if you get anything tall and narrow, or even a terrarium or a candy jar with an offset opening, but a pair of long tongs to reach in and place candles. And a 50 match box of fireplace matches to teach all the way in, to light 3-6 candles before the match goes out takes these very long, at least 9" wooden matches. Cheap wherever wood stoves are sold. Super expensive in home stores, where people only use them for fireplaces, so 10 times the cost. If you need other stuff, both sites have always been reliable for me for prices, shipping, and merchandise being exactly as advertised, probably at least 50 orders through the years, from butterflies to attach to bouquets and hair barrettes for flower girls, to wedding gifts, like a case of 12 10oz, 12oz, or 16oz glass warm beverage mugs, for coffee or cocoa, or a dozen to 36 glass beer mugs, at very reasonable prices, for people who have guests or cookouts and such often, and do not want mismatched odds and ends. They are affordable. And easily stored in original honeycomb boxes.

I’m doing terrariums as well for centerpieces and got a lot off Facebook marketplace, but I was also surprised by the markup for them - I bet a lot of people will have them for sale on Facebook marketplace and Craigslist since they are quite popular going into wedding season.

Have you looked on etsy yet? I found my terrariums through them. Some were as low as $6.
