Generic or personal vows?

What are you using? This has by far been the most stressful part of planning. I want what I say to FH up there to be personal but I'm having trouble putting my thoughts on paper.

We are doing personal. i just hope I can stop crying long enough to say them and don't freak with everyone listening.

FH really wants us to write our own. i agree, i'd like to... but i suck at writing. he's awesome. i'm definitely saying mine first so i don't have to follow his. lol. i've just been looking online and bits and piecing things and plan to add my own touch. idk. i'm stressing.

My problem isn't that I don't know how to tell my FH the promises I am keeping to him, but just making it all come together smoothly. I still have about 4 weeks to decide- I love the idea of private vows! Thanks everyone for your input.

Traditional. They say everything we could think of saying.

We are writing our own vows - at first it was difficult because I couldn't get the words out right, Then one night a few weeks back I was exhausted and went to bed at like 9 o'clock and in my half asleep half awake funk I was dreaming about the wedding and I was saying my vows, I jumped up and literally started writing my vows in a note on my phone! It wasn't even full sentences but I tweaked them the next day and now they are done!

I wrote our entire ceremony...so the whole thing was very personal!

We did something kind of in between. Our officiant had some different vows she had used in other ceremonies, and we kind of picked and chose the parts we liked best from those and others we had seen, and created our own personal vows that fit us best as a couple. (Wow, that was a long, run-on sentence! Sorry!) That way we didn't have to stress about what to write, while still keeping it personalized to us.

I searched a lot on A Practical Wedding's website and put various lines together that I liked. He agreed they fit us perfectly and we went with it.

Good luck - if writing on your own, that does sound like a challenge. Try to embrace it whenever you're feeling it - may take some kind of special motivation for putting you in the right place to write them.

You're going to be just as married either way; if you are private people, write each other a letter and read it before on on the morning after. If not, go to my pinterest page and look for the mad lib vow generator.

Your vows are not supposed to be great literature. Three lines about what you love about your partner; three lines of promises. The end.

Although I LOVE personal vows.... I'm going with generic vows. I know they are very "used" but I think they are traditional and simple (like me and my FH) Smiley smile Plus, I don't want the added stress of writing my own vows.

We both like the idea of saying the same as 1000s of other have said across time and places. There is just something nice about that

We did a little of both. I found a website and got inspiration from there and printed a bunch and had DH find one he that loved and fit how he felt, (he's not a writer and I didn't expect him to be) and then I took some from him and added my own and for him. People are still commenting that it was the perfect amount of time and we made them laugh and cry. I actually still have his index cheat card in my car so I see it all the time.
