Generic engagement cards

Brianna, on June 9, 2019 at 4:39 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 7
Hi all,

My future in-laws threw us an engagement party and we received gifts from a handful of guests. I ordered thank-you post cards from Minted.com. The thank you cards have a pre-written message on the other side...reads something like “thank you for celebrating our engagement with us and for your generous gift. Can’t wait to share our special day with you.” Is this tacky? Should I have hand written each thank you note, like I plan to do for the wedding gifts. We spent a good bit on the post cards, but at this point I don’t mind buying more and hand-writing them, if it’s going to upset people. Thanks!

I would find it pretty rude. And what about guests who didn't give gifts?

I probably should have given more detail. My future sister in law is also getting married, so their parents threw a joint engagement party. So many of the guests were hers and her fiancées friends, who I don’t know

I think it’s tacky. A thank-you card should come from the heart and be personalized. I just ordered the thank-yous for my bridal shower and our wedding and deleted the printed message the designer suggested.

Thank you! Luckily we wrote down every gift we received and who from so personalization shouldn’t be hard

I'm not a fan of generic cards because they lack personality - I always appreciate a handwritten note Smiley smile

Yeah I’d find that rude.... I think thank you card etiquette is one of the few unbendable rules these days

Yes, all thank you notes should contain a personal handwritten message. Whether for a birthday, a weekend stay at someone's house, or a gift.
