Gender Reveal @ Reception?

I got engaged this year and we set the date for April 1st. This month, we also found out that I'm pregnant. I'll be close to 5 months at the time the time of the wedding, so my fiancee came up with the idea of whenever we go in for the gender ultrasound to have the place not tell us but write it...
I got engaged this year and we set the date for April 1st. This month, we also found out that I'm pregnant. I'll be close to 5 months at the time the time of the wedding, so my fiancee came up with the idea of whenever we go in for the gender ultrasound to have the place not tell us but write it down on a sheet of paper and place it in an envelope and we'll either hand it to the maid of honor or best man, and they'll come up with the gender reveal idea to happen during the reception.

I guess my question is when is a good time for it to be done during the reception?

I love this! What a fun way to start your future together with everyone you love already there! have you thought about having the cake baker color the inside of the cake to match the gender? then when you cut the cake as bride and groom you also find out what the baby is!

I think everyone in attendance will love it. And I disagree (respectfully) with the comments that advise against for the reasoning of focusing on you as a couple. I see weddings as being about the blending of families, and what is more representative of multiple families becoming one than an incoming child?! I would just caution - don't do a baby-announcement and gender reveal all at once, as that may be too much surprise for one event. (5 months you'll probably have told everyone, but I know some people who waited later, which is why I bring it up)

Technically you have no idea what gender your child is going to be; what you're really talking about is revealing the child's sex.
