Geeky Ceremony for a Geeky Couple

GeekyBride, on May 25, 2016 at 2:51 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 90

Who is having a geek themed ceremony/reception or is incorporating items into the decorations? Our theme is Geek Chic and we are working with the venue and our planner to ensure it is fun and us but elegant and not tacky.

Yo! Subtly incorporating touches from the Legend of Zelda game series here. I have to keep pulling FH back from decor ideas, otherwise it's gonna end up looking like a 6 year old's birthday! Lol!

My theme is gamer geek chic. We are getting married on Star Wars day. There will be a combination of video games, table top games, Star Wars, Star Trek, Doctor Who, and many more! I am so happy to see other geeky brides!

We are doing everything, Star Wars, Halo, Assasins Creed, the Mario games, some Star Trek, and Harry Potter are the main ones. The cake will look like a regular wedding cake from one side and on the other side each tier will have a game theme. (like the super hero cakes you find on pintrest). Our centerpieces are going to be shells of consoles (Nintendo 64, SNES, the Playstation and Xbox consoles, etc.) with flowers flowing through them and references to the major games for each system hidden in the flowers using figurines and such. For the games that are 8bit we will probably have little perler art figures made to give them the 8bit look to hide in the flowers.

    Yes! Absolutely!

-I am seriously contemplating a very subtle Batman theme.

-FH will have some geeky, probably Mario related cufflinks.

-We might have some favorite books for centerpieces, which would include Dune, ASoIaF, HP etc.

-I'm walking down the aisle to the Bridal March, a record scratch, then the Theme of Space Jam/the theme of Mortal Kombat. ARE YOU READY FOR THIS?!

Ours may still look like a 6 year old's birthday... all the groomsmen and my daughters boyfriends are all ga-ga over FH's less than traditional want (necessity according to FH) - we are doing it because I'm not dying on THAT sword (or gun). It's a boy thing. It is...what it is...

@Punkin Beer I am having the wedding march and then it will be interrupted by the TARDIS sound. After that it will be the Doctor Who theme when I actually start walking.

Yes! Our theme is LotR which I'm really excited about! I'm a HUGE LotR geek and my FH actually used quotes from the books when he proposed. Even our invitations are LotR themed, it's gonna be so fun!

AH! So happy to see other geeky brides! With no one but Pintrest for geeky wedding ideas, I was lonely. lol. We are actually walking into our reception to Lindsey Stirling's Halo cover and exit the ceremony to the throne room music from Star Wars: A New Hope.

He got me into Halo so blame my fiance for that one. As for Star Wars, we thought it would be funny since almost all of our guests love Star Wars. Also looking at having the 501st legion perform "security" for laughs.

We're doing what I call "traditional with a twist." We're incorporating subtle touches that some guests may entirely miss, but we'll know are there:

Dr Who or LOTR ring box (haven't picked yet)

Jenga pieces to sign instead of a guest book

Phantom of the Opera for the BP to walk down the aisle

Dr Who theme for the BP entrance

    Imperial March for our entrance

There will be more; just haven't picked them all yet!

@Erika I love that idea!!! I'm sticking with a classical piece for my walk. The officiant is a geek too and promised to throw in references.

We are big (board)gamers and play tons of Ultimate Werewolf. I handmade Meeples for our place cards, had Meeple wedding cake toppers and a Suburbia themed wedding cake.

I love that!!! We thought about doing something Mario Party related during the reception/cocktail hour to help break the ice between everyone.
