Garters underneath satin dresses - will crystals snag the dress?

Private User, on April 9, 2014 at 10:36 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 1

Hello all! Smiley smile So I'm looking at garters, and I've fell in LOVE with the ones that are just plain crystals going all around the leg! The lace on my gown is so unique, and it wouldn't match regular lace on most garters. Also, fluffy garters wouldn't fit underneath my gown, as it is very fitted on my thigh! My dress is the Allure 8800, and it is actually two different pieces - one satin dress with tiny straps, then a lace overlay. So! Does anyone know if I were to buy a crystal garter, would the little crystals snag the satin underlay on my dress?! Or even if I did end up buying a pretty satin garter with a brooch on it, would that snag it as well? Help! I REALLY want to have crystals on my garter but don't want to spend a lot of money and not be able to use it on the big day. Also, I don't want to mess up my dress or have to deal with it getting caught all night!

I think it depends on the garter-certain crystals are flat back glued to fabric, while others are set in a metal and sown on (more likely to snag), also some rhinestones/crystals have more edges than others. If you do it you would want a smoother crystal that doesn't snag. My dress is silk/satin and pretty flush to the skin, so I am not wearing a garter to avoid any weird lumps and bumps under my dress. Looks like you should be ok with this one, but you want a smoother, flat back crystal to avoid snags.
