Garter/bouquet toss gifts?

Meghan, on October 19, 2017 at 6:30 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 22

I have been to weddings where the people who catch the garter and bouquet receive a small gift. Are you doing that? What are some ideas of gifts you are giving? (Gift card, alcohol, etc.) TIA!

The majority opinion seems to be: "Skip it."

I'm choosing to do one just for tradition from my family and because it's common in my circle. But I'm not giving away gifts for it.

I've never heard of that. We skipped the whole thing.

I won't be giving away gifts for that. I have never seen that done.

I'm doing a bouquet toss with a small bunch of real roses. Otherwise, all my flowers will be wood. (I don't want to risk tossing wooden flowers.) Whoever catches it gets to keep it. FH was kinda traumatized by the garter toss at the last wedding we went to so he now agrees with me about not doing one yay.

I've never heard of this. Isn't the bouquet and the garter the "gift"?!

I was unaware you gave a gift, I think I have seen where the guy who catches has to put the garter on the girl who catches but to me that's to awkward. I think just picture of them together maybe and then they keep what they caught. That's probably what we will do.

We aren't doing a bouquet toss or garter toss. There are barely any single people as we are in our mid 30s so it would be awkward AF.

Perfect thanks! I was in a wedding where the bride and groom gave gifts (gift card and nice bottle of booze).....a little boy caught the garter......so I didn't know if this was typical or no. I will be saving some money then Smiley smile

All our family weddings we've went to the person catching the garter & bouquet received money ($25-$50) with it!

We did a ring pull and a garter toss and it's so so so so so so awkward. I'm like basically an exhibitionist and even I was like "oh my GOD. my grammy is here. my parents are watching...oh please let this be over"

I know that's not what you asked by I figured I'd try to give my experience. I wish I skipped it so bad.

We gave the guy a fifth of whiskey and the girl a bottle of champagne and a small bouquet of white roses. Oh and the guy that caught the garter was a total creep to my BFF who got the ring. He begged her for a dance for like 20 minutes because people were cheering for them to do so. I felt so guilty that I made her feel awkward.

I have never heard of that. I wouldn't do an additional but I would probably let them keep the garter or toss bouquet if we choose to keep these traditions.

I haven't heard of giving gifts. But maybe you should ask the bride who done this why she done it. Maybe it's tradition for her family or maybe "something special" her and her groom decided to do.

Never heard of gifts. I've caught the bouquet twice and always got to take that home. I'd love to skip these traditions at my wedding, but FH is being stubborn about them.

I've never seen or heard of that! However I will state that I am not doing the garter or bouquet toss. Our planner suggested a dance for the couple who's been married the longest.

@bride2be2018. Our exact reasons we are skipping it.

OP I've never heard of a gift given.
