Garter Toss

Danielle, on December 4, 2019 at 11:33 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 16

I'm not really into wearing a garter and then having my husband toss it and someone else keeping it. Any ideas on a substitution?

There are places that have garters for you to keep and one to throw. I have been to a couple weddings in the last year and one does an anniversary dance which my grandparents have been together for 63 years and won that on.

No need to substitute it for anything, the majority of guests won't even notice if you skip it. But if you want to add something else, maybe an anniversary dance.

Feel free to cut it completely if you're not comfortable!

We are skipping this entirely. I just feel uncomfortable having FH go under my dress in front of way to many people!

We skipped it. We were originally going to do the shoe game instead, but my brother did that as his wedding 4 months before ours so we selected to do a trivia game. We had everyone fill out a piece of paper with questions on them during dinner. After dinner they went out onto the dance floor and the DJ read each question and if you didn't get the answer right you sat down until there were 10 people. Those 10 people got little prizes we made. It was fun to see everyone's answers. The questions were about us. We had like where where did we first meet or what are our favorite colors and they had to know at least one. It was a nice interactive game.

I am not planning to have one in my wedding because it’s a bit awkward as my family are very conservative. I have also attended at least 3 weddings without the garter toss. Honestly, the guests don’t notice or care. Don’t need to substitute.

Just don't do it - you don't need to replace it with anything!

Games at weddings (trivia, shoe game, etc) are super weird and I've never seen a "crowd" that actually enjoys them. Just let people dance and mingle!

We skipped it completely. And the bouquet toss. No one said anything about it.

You don’t have to replace it with anything. Weddings now have so many things that are not traditional that people don’t even notice those things.
