Garter toss alternative

Mrs_17, on January 20, 2017 at 3:14 PM Posted in Planning 0 10

What would be an alternative to the Garter toss? Something that the groom can still do with the guys at reception. Thanks!

Someone on here wrote that their groom did some funny thing and reached under the dress but then threw a football instead of the garter.

^But reaching under the dress in front of guests is like 95% of why the garter toss is awkward. I'd also like to know where the bride was hiding that football.

OP, I would just skip it.

My alternative is not doing it. We're just doing the bouquet toss

I think the whole thing with the football is that they take the garter off and then wrap it around a football and then throw the football with the garter on it. It's not an alternative to the garter toss, they are just throwing it on a football instead of flinging it.

We are skipping bouquet and garter toss. It just doesn't seem important to us, and its more focused on pointing out single people. We do not have a ton of single people coming and do not want to put the spotlight on them for being single

Ooo I see. I didn't get that part of her football comment at all lol

I found this online. It's for the bouquet but most of the things could also be used instead of the garter toss.

I don't think the single men at your wedding will miss the garter toss though. They have plenty of other moments to bond with groom (pre-wedding rituals, bachelor party, boys-only dance).

Also random idea: My FH will be doing a "closest to the pin" thing with light-up golf balls. It's not men-only, but if FH is into a particular sport, maybe something similar would work for you.
