Garment bag

Is there a wedding dress garment bag that anyone recommends for traveling ? I’m getting married in Saint Lucia and I want to ensure that my gown stays protected

I'm also flying to my wedding location and was planning on using the garment bag that my dress came in. It's a light (probably breathable) fabric, I would assume that's ideal so the dress can breathe and not become damaged from trapped moisture.

Are you carrying it like that on the plane? I was wondering how to carry my dress on the plane too and was looking into more sturdy garment bags but I’m unsure!

Your bridal salon should give you one with your dress. If they don’t, I’d ask them for their suggestion on the best one.

I'm planning on calling the airline ahead of time to see if my plane will have a closet on board where I can hang my dress. If not, I'll place it on the overhead bin and hope it doesn't get smooshed! Luckily my flight is only a couple hours.

I'd get a plastic garment bag for traveling. Breathable is great if the environment the dress+bag is in is always climate controlled, but a breathable bag won't protect your dress against environmental elements, like high humidity, rain, spills, your dress getting dropped on the ground, putting your dress next to the coat of a smoker, etc. You can get a plastic, nylon, or other waterproof garment bag for travel that you just layer your dress and fabric bag inside and then remove the plastic cover once you get to your hotel and just leave the bag hung inside its normal fabric bag there.

I would not travel with my wedding dress in a breathable fabric bag. It's just not protective enough IMO.

Note: Before putting your dress in a plastic bag, make sure it is clean and dry and that the environment is humidity and temperature controlled, so you are only trapping in good air. Plastic protects both ways, so if you seal a damp dress into a plastic bag or bag up your dress in 90% humidity can get mildew, mold, or other funkiness.
