Garland Table Runners

Mrscolón, on January 19, 2018 at 1:34 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 2 22
I’m looking into DIY garland table runners. I’ve been quoted at $60-$75 per table. I’ve also been told that this is mainly due to their time spent on it. SOOOO has anyone made their own garland before? Where is the best place to find what I need at a good price?

Here’s an example of what I’m looking for:

I think that price is pretty fair. Costco sells 25' fresh garlands via their florist depart for $79.99. You might be able to get those and split them in 2 if you have 6' tables.

Garlands alone are going to be almost that much $ depending on your table size, before you add all the flowers. That sounds like a pretty good deal if that is through your florist. If you decide to venture on your own, there is a good tutorial here

I think that price is really reasonable and you might not find that buying everything and making them yourself really saves enough for it to be worth it.

Garlands are pricey because they are labor intensive. You can get the same look by simply overlapping greens down the length of the table. When you get to the end, turn the branches around and hide the cut ends under the previous greens. You can use different types of greens and add votives, chachkas and fresh flowers in florist tubes as you see fit.

If you want the "garland" to hang over the end, you can cut a length of narrow rope the length of the whole table and just do a proper garland on the 30" at each end. Cover the 8 feet of rope in the middle with cut branches as above.

Try looking on afloral.com! I also want to have a greenery garland on my table tops but they tend to get pricey! I was going to attempt to DIY them and afloral.com seems to have really reasonable prices! Here’s one example, an 8 foot eucalyptus garland for $32. They have lots of other options too!

I would definitely try Costco. If you want overhand it will be about $40 per table. No overhang and it would be about $27

That price is very reasonable. The florists in my area priced it by the foot. I had 60 feet for my wedding and it cost me $900, which is about $15/foot. In order to save costs and get the most use out of it, I used the garlands to drape the pews for the ceremony, and then repurposed it as my centerpieces at my reception.

I was looking for the same thing to mimic your second photo. Everything was much too expensive for 16 tables. I'm doing high quality faux flowers for bouquets, boutonnieres, and alter and isle decorations. All leaves or flowers that can clipped off are being used in making my own garlands. I'm going to use floral wire and have a huge variety of different pieces. At first I was hoping for a more cohesive look but this is actually going to match more with our rustic chic decor.

Garlands take a long time to make. They are very labor intensive, the price seems fair to me. Try and use them in a few different ways to get your moneys worth out of them. So maybe use them at your ceremony and also for your reception?

I love that option of just doing greens! Is that usually less expensive than garland? What type of greens would I buy for a project like this?

That would be a great idea, just as PP said she did. However, I am getting married outside with nowhere to use all that garland. I will have to keep searching that to do! Thank you for the suggestion!

Check out Everleaf Greens in FL. They are a web company shipping to the U.S. and Canada, with fresh garland priced by the foot. I planned on buying from them for our wedding, but wound up buying through our florist when she was able to come close to their pricing. Here are the styles you can buy: https://www.everleafgreens.com/garland.html

The greens in your pics are eucalyptus and seeded eucalyptus. You can order both from Sam's Club, or Costco. You could also use any hardy local greens like laurel or magnolia.

Another way to save money is to order dried or faux garland then insert sprigs of live greens to bulk it up.

My SIL got them from Costco for their wedding. Make sure your tables are big enough so that the garland won't be in everyone's food while they eat. They were GORGEOUS and well worth it for the pictures, however, being the one to have to set them up.. a pain in the butt! We had to trim them to keep the leaves back and the clean up was atrocious. We must have swept 3 times before it all began. Not including the aftermath!

I spent $110 on eucalyptus sprigs and just laid them on the tables. Same effect as garland and easier/cheaper. i had 10 long tables that seated 8 people.

You are amazing! This is very similar to what I am planning and your table set up is very similar to mine. I felt like jars would leave the tables feeling empty and your idea was amazing.
