Gardenia in our hair...

Jesse's Boo, on June 29, 2014 at 9:03 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 8

Anyone put real flowers in their hair? My florist will do this but is charging $20 per BM. I'm trying to go the DIY route and find some flat flowers to do so. I love the idea of a gardenia. Anyone else do this themselves?

Would want something like this picture but with a gardenia.

I purchased a real touch gardenia to have in my hair at the wedding. It was about $18 I think on Etsy. It looks so real, and will last forever, so I liked it better than a real flower.

When I'd mentioned it to my florist, she also mentioned that gardenias are very sensitive and may brown at the edges just because they're touched when someone puts it in your hair. Just something to think about!

Use a fake one and pin that poo in by yourself!

Thank you, KristinH. I will use a fake one. Did not even think about the petals being too delicate!

I think most real flowers would have a hard time holding up -- between the heat radiating off your head in addition to the temp in the room (or outside).

Gorgeous flower, but among the most delicate. They even have to be stored differently that other flowers to prevent browning. They're very expensive, and you really have no guarantee that they will not brown once they have been handled and placed against hair that has hair product in it. Go the silk route. If you get a good one, nobody will know the difference.

Not many flowers can beat the scent of a real gardenia. Smiley smile However, they are very fragile and brown easily. Go real touch or silk on this one.

I put real flowers in my hair for my graduation in high school and plan to do the same for my wedding. They held up totally fine- although Gardenia's are very sensitive so I would choose a heartier flower.

To DIY- You just need some covered wire (similar to a twist-tie) and wrap it around the stem, then insert the long side into your hair. I would secure it with a bobby-pin.

Fragrant flowers donʻt last super long but I just stole the orchids off our room service plates at the hotel and pinned them in my hair.
