Garden party attire??

AllieB25, on March 9, 2018 at 9:43 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 2 10

So, FH and I are invited to a wedding next month and on the invitation it states 'Garden Party Attire' and I am flummoxed. What does this mean? Neither of us have been to a 'garden party' in our lives, and all I can imagine is that episode of the office where Andy throws a party for his parents at Schrute farms...

What would ya'll wear to this wedding? It's the beginning of April in southern Texas, BTW, so it will probably be pretty warm.

Thank you! I was seriously so lost because it's so specific... like it almost feels like some kind of code that I am supposed to understand. I was just as confused last year when we got one that said 'black tie optional' like WHAT DO YOU MEAN?

Floral print dress and wedge heels would be how I would interpret that wording.

That is super confusing...reason #14903 you don't put a dress code on invitations. Smiley smile

If I received an invite like this I'd probably wear a nice sundress in a bright color or with a fun floral print. Probably wear a light cardigan too in case it is cool and a pair of wedges (no heels that may sink in the grass).

    Maybe a dress like these:

I would assume that is a warning of uneven footing and not wear stiletto heels.

I think floral dresses, or skirts. Or lighter colored suits. But I think anything in the cocktail attire realm would be ok. Just nothing uber formal or black tie or “nightclub”-esqe.

I was thinking about using this phrasing. Guess not!
I meant it as a nice summer dress (leaning toward cocktail) for ladies and khakis with button down (tie optional) for gentlemen. Not quite casual, but not quite cocktail. (Also, shoes you can wear on a lawn.)
