Galvanized Metal Tubs As Coolers

AJ, on May 27, 2018 at 6:53 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 10

We're having a pretty laid back wedding--woodsy cabin setting, BBQ buffet, canned beer (venue restriction). We plan to use some big galvanized metal tubs to hold drinks, and guests can grab them whenever. The ones I want to rent are 100gal. Has anyone used these? Need help on how many drinks they can hold, so I know how many to rent. Thanks in advance!

Yeah, the rentals available to us were either 15 gallon or 100 gallon. We have 130 guests, serving for 5 hours. There's no venue staff to restock them, so we're hoping to just fill once and be good?

If there is no bartender or staff, how will you make sure no underage guests are drinking or that guests aren't overserved? My venue doesn't allow serve yourself due to liabilities and we must hire a licensed, insured bartending staff for that reason.

Nobody under 21 will be in attendance, and there is a police officer on site. We also have liability insurance.

That's going to take a whole lot of ice! I second the question of how you are going to keep those who are underage away from the beer.

So not 100 gallon containers but I had friends use canoes for the same thing and 1 canoe held enough beer for a 4 or so hour reception. They had some left over.
my Mom has an old claw foot tub she also uses to hold beer. It can hold 1 keg and I think about 6 or 7 cases of beer.
ice will last longer then you think so don’t worry too much once it’s filled Smiley smile I have a friend that did a keg at her reception and just put cups next too it and let people help themselves even though she had a bartender she said it was one of the best ideas and didn’t need have any trouble with it!

We considered canoes as well! Would have been a fun touch since our venue is on a lake, but hauling our old canoes that far wasn't going to work. It's such a cute idea though!

Thank you for the estimations, even though they aren't for the metal tubs they're still very helpful. Smiley smile

I just used one for my wedding yesterday! We had bottled water and lots of sodas for people that did t want an alcoholic beverage. I’m not sure of the size but it held about 2 cases of water (45 regular bottles per case) and I had about 4 different sodas (2 -12packs per soda). It was easy for th to see and grab to help minimize the traffic at the bar.

I just bought a couple galvanized tubs for our reception from Walmart, only $13 a piece for 15 gallons and they have cute bottle openers on the side Smiley smile
