Fyi: Vow to Be Chic has officially shut down

Kimmi, on May 2, 2018 at 1:35 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 10

For any girls still thinking of using Vow to Be Chic...well we can't. Below is the email I received this morning from them.

"So after an incredibly stressful month trying to get in contact with Vow to Be Chic for my girl's bridesmaids dresses, I received an email update from the company as seen below.

It is with great sadness that we share this news with you. As of today, we are shutting down operations at Vow To Be Chic. You are probably surprised, and like us, disappointed to hear this. We're heartbroken.

We are working hard to minimize the inconvenience on remaining customers. For those who need it, we have arranged alternative options for their bridesmaids' dresses.

We launched Vow To Be Chic in 2015 with an ambitious mission: to bring the wedding industry into the 21st century. While groomsmen had been able to rent tuxes for decades, no such option existed for brides and their bridesmaids. We wanted to change that.

We are honored to have helped so many women on their special day. We served tens of thousands of women and saved them over $6 Million. We are proud that our business was run by women, for women.

By definition, startups are change-makers, rule-breakers, and boundary-pushers. A startup ventures into unknown territory to try to make the world a better place and this comes with many challenges. Ultimately, we launched a company that was before its time. Women’s clothing rental is new to retail overall, and even newer to the wedding industry. Rental is also a capital-intensive business. In short, to prove out our concept, we needed more time and money, that unfortunately, we don't have. Our capital constraints mean we have no choice but to stop operations today.

We believe in rental and its role in the future of retail. We're hopeful that in the future someone will expand upon what we did at Vow.

Thank you so much for your support. We have the most wonderful customers - you have supported a by-women-for-women startup business, and you chose to rent, which not only saved money but also helped reduce waste. To the tens of thousands of women who let us play a small role in your special day, we’re eternally grateful. "

Oh wow so sorry to hear that. Were you already in the process of renting the dresses through them?

Yes, 3 out of 6 of my bridesmaids had already reserved dresses...but thank goodness my wedding is still 4 months away which gives me time to find an alternative for my girls. I can't imagine what the brides/bridesmaids are doing with weddings coming up sooner!

Wow I can’t believe this. I was going to use them. It makes no sense for everyone to be buying bridesmaid dresses when you can’t rent them. I think the concept is great. Why aren’t people using it?

In theory I think it's a great idea however the places I looked it seemed the buying was almost the same price and you have to make sure all the sizes and styles are available when you need them to be. And if one of the dresses is destroyed from a previous wedding I've read you can be SOL.

I found great quality bridesmaids dresses on amazon for under $30 which is less then it would be to rent. Hopefully anyone using them soon is able to find something comparable fairly easy.

Does anyone know if bridesmaids that already paid for rentals and won’t be getting them will get money back? My wedding is three months away and my bridesmaids got this email today. I hate to ask them to purchase another BM dress without confirmation they’ll get their money back from Vow to be Chic

I would assume the same concept would apply here. A couple years ago I signed up for a race and the company went bankrupt and shut down prior to the run and refused to give refunds. My friends and I running reached out to our credit card companies and explained he situation and they gave us the money back because we never received services that we paid for and then they have to go after the company. if they don’t give refunds have them reach out to their CC companies and tell them they didn’t receive the product and they should be able to open a case and hopefully get the money back.
