Future Mother in Law's Dress is Silver/white...

Rachel, on November 12, 2019 at 1:22 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 8

Hello! So my future mother in law has been trying on dresses for the past couple of months and has gone through buying and returning at least 12 dresses now. She is Russian and I don't believe has been to an American wedding before outside of my fiance's cousins. The latest dress she loves and she was so excited about it, however, when she showed me the photo of the dress it was completely silver/white. At this point, I'm giving up and don't really mind that she'll be in the dress (I think it'll be obvious who the bride is and if she's happy I'm happy). However, my own mother said I should probably tell my future mother in law to maybe find another dress or see if it comes in another color because even if I don't really care, other people will definitely talk about it and not necessarily in a nice way (hopefully none of my friends do, but people can be catty). Should I have her get another dress?

No. Leave it be. Silver will be beautiful! Let them talk, people always do.
Like you said, if she is happy , you are happy.
She's obviously put in a lot of thought and effort, wanting to fit in. Probably alot of worry too.
    I'd roll with itSmiley smile

Is it silver or white? There's a big difference.

My FMIL did something similar, but she's very aware of the "no white" rule. I would have your fiancé speak to her about it and let her know of the customs here. If you're fine with it and don't care if she gets another dress, just leave it up to the two of them once they talk about it. But I do think it would be kind for your fiancé to let her know in case she isn't aware of the wedding culture here Smiley smile

Silver and white is fine. Your mom shouldn't have any say in what your MIL wears. If she feels good and comfortable in the dress, that's all that matters.

No. She can wear silver/white if she wants. If she's already bought/returned 12 there's a good chance she is going to return this one too!

That's a good idea! I just don't want her to be upset if someone says something to her at the wedding and then her turn around and ask why I didn't say anything about it.

I would let it go if you’re ok with it but like PP said maybe your FH could at least make her aware of the etiquette here regarding white dresses at weddings (but making sure he tells her you are ok with the dress).

I would leave it alone. If she wants to wear it, she risks being looked at unfavorably, but it's her decision!
